EMQ’s With TRUMBITEN

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Luleå, Sweden based Metal band, Trumbiten. Huge thanks to them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Tommy and I play the drums and write lyrics. My son Adam plays the bass and together we form the metal duo “Trumbiten” from the northern part of Sweden, in the city of Luleå.

We started to play together, 5 years ago, just for fun and without any further plans. We are both into the metal genre and we started to play and experiment with parts of classic heavy metal songs with cool drumbeats and cool guitar riffs, e.g., Metallica, Ghost etc.

In the beginning, I played the drums and mixed/mastered our tracks and my son took care of the guitar and bass tracks. Soon, we started to experiment and record instrumental covers and wanted to share our music with family and friends. The idea of starting a YouTube-channel came up in 2018 and at the same time we agreed on the name “Trumbiten”. We started the YouTube-channel early 2019 and uploaded different instrumental covers followed by our first cover on streaming media early 2020.

It was fun to play instrumental covers, but we wanted to develop our music further and decided to find someone that could add vocals. So, one idea was to add female vocals to cool covers such as Ghost-He is etc. So, I turned to SoundBetter and connected to different session musicians, which resulted in our first original song, with own lyrics, that was released September 2020, ‘Fear Me’.

And now we have released our first original EP with three songs…This is really awesome and was never on our minds only 2 years ago.

How did you come up with your band name?

It is actually a play with words and a tribute to all the great drummers and drum beats out there.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

Trumbiten is from the city of Luleå (population 77,000), Norrbotten County (population 250,000+) in Sweden. The City of Luleå is not far from the Arctic Circle (approx. 75 miles or 120 km).

There are many examples of Swedish Metal bands such as Meshuggah, Ghost, Amon Amarth, Sabaton etc. Meshuggah is a band from northern part of Sweden (300 km south of Luleå) and from Luleå we have Raised Fist, Fireside, The Duskfall…

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We released our first original single ‘Fear Me’ in September 2020 and have just released our first original EP “Emotions”!

‘Beast Of Fire’ (Lyric Video)

‘Fear Me’ (Lyric Video)

Who have been your greatest influences?

My interest for the Metal genre got a real kick when I heard Metallica’s track ‘Whiplash’ on the radio for the first time, I think mid-1984…after that I was fully into heavy metal.

Bands like Ghost, Dissection, Metallica (Lars Ulrich, since he is a great inspiration for me as a drummer).

What first got you into music?

I’ve always been interested in music (like most people) and one day I decided to invest in a drum set 😊 and then my life got a real boost. See story above!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

A difficult question, there are so many great musicians, but it would be cool to develop lyrics with Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), Elize Ryd (Amaranthe) or Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy).

Also, it would be awesome to try out cool drumbeats with Lars Ulrich or heavy bass riffs with Robert Trujillo!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Actually, we haven’t thought about this as we have just started to release our own music. But give us a few more years and then we can answer this question.

Maybe, on a virtual scene?

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Not yet!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Follow your dreams and keep rockin’.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

I would choose John Bonham and maybe get a chance to learn more about his techniques, his sound and feel for the groove.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The creative process from idea to a product and to follow how a song grows and develops over time. That is something that gives energy and inspiration in many aspects.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

One album that has played an important role for the metal duo Trumbiten is Metallica’s Black Album as it has been one album that we had as inspiration when we started to play together.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Streaming services like Spotify etc

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Not played live yet.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I am currently working with tech innovation and have now also added musician to my CV 😊.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

What’s next for the band?

We released our first EP on May 14th and we have three more songs in the pipeline that we plan to release during the fall.
