EMQ’s with HOT SUNDAY BLOOD
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview, with Turin, Italy based Alternative Rock band, Hot Sunday Blood. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hi, we are Hot Sunday Blood, we were born in 2013 in the city of Turin. We play alternative rock with various influences from metal and grunge to stoner. After recording two albums, released for the American label Mervilton Records, “Someone Left Behind” (2015) and “New Omega” (2017) and finally finding a stable line-up we recorded “Kein Licht” (2019) released for the independent label Snooky Records
How did you come up with your band name?
The name came by itself…we wanted it to convey a mood that represented us. On Sunday you should relax yourself but your inner troubles hold you back and you keep having bad thoughts. Having ‘hot blood’ is the literal translation of an Italian expression which means feeling angry, out of place, and in a generally bad mood.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We come from Turin, a city in northern Italy, and unfortunately today the metal/rock scene is practically non-existent. Years ago, until the end of the 90’s, there was a fantastic music scene especially hardcore. The 2000’s swept everything away, only the ash remained. Very few clubs where you can play live and a non-existent scene. Live music here is completely dead for any musical genre and this reality is identical for the whole Italian territory. A great sadness.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest album is “Kein Licht” released in 2019 which consists of six tracks. Take a look at the three videos on social channels:
‘The Long Winter’s Embrace’ (Official Video)
‘Time Machine’ (Official Video)
‘No Way Out’ (Official Video)
Who have been your greatest influences?
Here the choice is very difficult but I will tell you five names (as many as the members of our band)!
Alice in Chains
Pantera
Type O Negative
Smashing Pumpkins
Soundgarden
What first got you into music?
The ability to feel free…express what words alone will never be able to say.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
A dream would be collaborating with Steven Wilson!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Even if it is a bit far from our musical genre, I would choose Wacken because it has remained true and credible in all its years of activity.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Surely the best gift was when a couple travelled more than 150 kilometres to come and see us at one of our concerts. It won’t be very strange as a gift for a super famous band but for us it was huge.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Listening to any musical genre without having too many clichés about it. I now see too many definitions of musical genres… Too often people do not explore beyond their own musical boundaries…but you know, sometimes they could make pleasant discoveries.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
This question is really too difficult.
I really don’t know…probably Beethoven. I’d be curious to hear what he could compose in 2021.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The thing I like the most is trying to convey emotions and moods to people that are difficult to explain with other forms of art. Sometimes it’s almost getting naked, few other artistic manifestations succeed. The thing I hate the most is seeing how music is stuck right now. Especially in my country. It really makes me very sad.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The fact that you no longer invest in emerging bands or artists. We found this to be a terrible mistake. You can’t just bet on talent show artists where they constantly reproduce covers, makes no sense. Nobody has anything more to say? I just find it absurd.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Soundgarden – “Superunknown” for life!
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I’m too young for vinyls and old enough for downloads, so…
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Surely having opened for Doyle in 2018 for the Turin date of his European tour.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Probably a fisherman. I really like the idea of loneliness that revolves around it.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Definitely Lemmy, he would have so many stories to tell! Then Phil Anselmo and Charles Bukowski, two of my youth heroes. Then I would be curious to have dinner with Hunter S. Thompson, I would really have many questions to ask him and then I think Fabrizio De Andrè.
What’s next for the band?
We are working on the fourth album of which the first single, ‘HERE AND NOW’, will be released soon featuring Trevor from Sadist. We are still deciding when to release the remaining songs, it depends on how things go. And then we hope to be able to start again playing live, this is the thing we miss the most.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
I’m sorry but I don’t know…I’d go for biscuits.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you! I would like to thank Marzio Francone of Snooky Records for his precious help and Angels PR music Promotion for their wonderful work.
