EMQ’s With RABID HOOD
Hello everyone. Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Norwegian Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal band, Rabid Hood. Huge thanks to their vocalist, Roger Olsen, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Roger Olsen and I am the vocalist in Rabid Hood. We wanted to start a new Hard Rock band and Olsen, Aven and Martinussen started recording some demo songs a few years ago, but it stopped there. The songs remained untouched until we got Venås and Igland in the band in the summer of 2021. Rabid Hood has extensive experience in the Metal and Rock ‘N’ Roll stage with members from Helheim, ex-Taake, Trelldom, Nattverd, Aventyr and Spitfire++. so now we’re up and running and we are pretty excited about it.
How did you come up with your band name?
Well it’s a name guitarist Aven has had in his mind for a long time and we thought it would fit well to the style and music and we are quite happy with it.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We come from the West Country near Bergen in Norway and there is a rich music environment in Metal / Rock scene thank God for that.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
So far, we have released our debut EP “Spiteful” and we hope it will be well received by all hard rockers. Produced by Beau Hill Musicproduction the hard-hitting drummer with a touch of Metal, Hard Rock and Rock at the same time, lead guitarist with heavenly solos, rhythm guitar and bass which creates a solid foundation for success and a vocalist who tops it all. With this we hope to be a breath of fresh air in the jungle of music out there.
Who have been your greatest influences?
We were all born in the 70’s so we like what we grew up with… like Motorhead, AC / DC, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc. and we always wanted to be like them. So I think it has probably affected us as a band more than we think but that’s how it is.
What first got you into music?
We have always been interested in music ever since we were kids, listening to all kind of music and wanted to be like them – you know how it is. Eventually we got hold of instruments, taught ourselves little by little to play them and started playing together with different results for many years. So we learned more and more as time went by having a great time doing it. We managed to get some gigs locally and you know we were stars in our own little way. Then we started a real band and got serious about it. Members came and members went but we never gave up so here we are.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Hard to say – must be a band that has come a long way that can kickstart Rabid Hood in the same direction maybe Iron Maiden.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Must be one of the largest in the world so we can show ourselves to the widest possible audience, maybe sometime in the future one never knows, LOL.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A belt but he wanted my belt in exchange because he thought my belt was so stylish.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Stay cool and keep on Rocking.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
The man who started it all.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
It’s a wonderful feeling to stand on the stage and perform your music to a large audience and of course create music, it gives you a good feeling, but it takes a lot of time and energy and is often exhausting to get there.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Maybe go back in time to when you had to physically buy the music in the store and not on streaming platforms.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“No Prayer for the Dying” Iron Maiden
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
Downloads are of course good for the fans but I prefer physical copies like vinyl.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
It is in our local town with many friends in the audience.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Could have been anything.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
My band.
What’s next for the band?
We have big ambitions to get out there and play our music in front of live audiences as much as we can and we have a lot of music ready to be recorded for a whole album, so there is a lot of work ahead. We want to try to make Rabid Hood a hard hitting Hard Rock band that people notice and talk about, and I hope we will achieve that in this crazy music world we live in LoL. And that is our modest goal.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Well Facebook and YouTube, should probably be more active on all platforms.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
It’s a biscuit.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
No thank you!
