Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian Heavy Metal band Persevera. Huge thanks to their guitarist Danilo Bredda for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Danilo Bredda and I play guitar in the band. In short: over the years I’ve created 25 instrumental songs, just guitar riffs and solos, on loop station pedals. When I finished the 25th song, I decided it was time to record in the studio in a professional way. For that, I needed musicians to sing and play the other instruments. My cousin, Paulo Carrara, accepted to sing and also introduced me to the other members of the band, Thadeu Castro (bass) and Claudio Lima (drums). And from then on, I started writing the lyrics for 25 songs. I decided to split these songs into two complete albums. At the moment, the first album is fully recorded and we have already started recording the second album. As a marketing strategy, we are releasing song by song on digital platforms. From the first album that will have 13 songs, 10 of them have been released so far.
How did you come up with your band name?
I wish it wasn’t a cliché name, and that it referred something related to perseverance, not giving up, something that lasts over time.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Sumaré (Brazil), which is approximately 100 km from the city of São Paulo. I think the local scene is no different from other places. There are a lot of good bands in the underground scene that deserve to be heard.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our last single is called “The Red Horse”. It’s the tenth song that will be featured on our first album.
Who have been your greatest influences?
The biggest influence on our sound is the heavy metal of the ‘90s. Bands like Iced Earth, Helloween, Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc.
What first got you into music?
When I watched Pink Floyd’s Pulse concert.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Would be fun to play with Kai Hansen.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Wacken. I always wanted to go there.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I have never received a gift up to now.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Stay tuned, lots of material to be released yet!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Chuck Schuldiner.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Possibility to create songs that can stand the last over time. It’s not very profitable financially speaking, though.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
No opinion.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We’re just in the studio recording.

Engineer.

Kai Hansen, Tommy Iommi, James Hetfield, Jon Schaffer, and Michael Weikath.
What’s next for the band?
Release our album in physical format.
