EMQ’s With Urania Fantasia

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK based Theatrical Symphonic Metal concept project, Urania Fantasia. Huge thanks to Vocalist and Lyricist, Pete, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My names Pete and I’m the second half of Urania Fantasia, I contribute through performing the vocals and writing the lyrics! William and I came together on Instagram and we discussed the potential of creating a project together – thus Urania was born!

How did you come up with your band name?

I might stand corrected but I believe Urania is from mythology as a muse or deity of music whereas Fantasia adds an air of mystery to the character!

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

South West England… there is definitely not as much of a scene as the North and it’s declined in years but in general the live Music Scene in the U.K. is ok!

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

It’s a single, a debut!

Who have been your greatest influences?

Vocally for me – I always say Tarja Turunen and Kate Bush… plus all the big voices through most of the genres over the years.

What first got you into music?

I think my mum had a huge influence on me with her music taste and passion for heavy music. My Nan loved musical theatre so those two combined definitely inspired my journey into Symphonic Metal.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Oh god… tough one! There are so many people that I would love to collaborate with. I’m a big vocal geek so for that reason I’d love to do something with Marcela Bovio, she’s got incredible technique and blows me away with her versatility. Tori Amos or Armin van Buuren would be good as well!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Waken. Hands down. It looks incredible and the audience seem really into it.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I’m not sure if I have any “fans” and I don’t think I’ve had any gifts but people do ask me to listen to their singing and analyse it sometimes, I don’t, but the request is humbling and strange at the same time.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

To share and support the artist directly 🖤

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Chester Bennington. He was incredible.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I hate how much I care about my craft. It’s an extension of my soul and sometimes that can be pretty heavy.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

People expecting artists to work for free, especially singers actually! It seems to happen to us more than you think. Also, the way women are treated In the metal scene, still pretty objectified… not cool!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Once” – Nightwish.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?

Downloads, purely for ease! But I always buy the Vinyl of albums I like.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I’ve never played live… would be good to change that!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I’m lots of other things as well as a musician. A manager, a therapist… so I like to vary my interests and keep my mind active. I think I would have liked to have been an actor though, that would be cool!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Ouch, tough question! Tuomas Holopainen, Kate Bush, Sarah Brightman, Brandon Sanderson and Robin Hobb.

What’s next for the band?

Who knows! We would love to release some more stuff but right now we’re riding on the wave of the debut for a moment… watch this space.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Instagram mainly for me – https://www.instagram.com/pete_rawcliffe/?hl=en

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

Cakes!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thanks so much for the chat!! Let us know what you think of the new track.
