EMQ’s With SEVENTH FEAR
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK based Metal band, Seventh Fear. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Martin J. White, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Martin J. White. I am the Vocalist. The band got together in 2011 as a club band playing Metal covers from bands such as Pantera, S.O.A.D, Metalica etc. After 2014 we decided to start writing our own material, but the project had to be put on hold due to family issues. When Covid hit and we were in lockdown myself and Andrew Warwick (guitarist) decided to use the time to begin writing again. Wayne Hudson (bass) rejoined us after a successful time with Satan’s Empire and a short while after Darryl Seaman (Drums) joined and Seventh Fear were a solid unit.
How did you come up with your band name?
I can’t remember, but we did find two meanings for Seventh Fear and one of them was from an ancient religion. The meaning is “The Fear of Children”. The weirdest part is that our logo designer didn’t know and sent us the art which features a picture of a child’s face that she had made quite menacing.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We’re from the UK and it is picking up quite well after the lockdowns. Venues are bouncing back and there are an abundance of Metal festivals now happening so it’s absolutely brilliant.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
The debut single is called ‘In The Shadows’ and due to be released soon with a Lyric video.
Who have been your greatest influences?
For me personally there are many but the main influences I would say are Glenn Hughes, Rob Halford and Jaime Vendera one of the best Rock and Metal vocal coaches of today.
What first got you into music?
When I was very young my brother would play me albums from bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Genesis, Yes and others and from then on I was hooked and wanted to be a singer the front man.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Wow that’s a hard one, as Seventh Fear are like family and we get along so well. If I had to choose another one it would be Mushuggah definitely.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Download here in the UK
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Used Womens’ underwear – our bass player has them, as he’s twisted LOL!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Do what you want Be what you want life’s too short but be respectful while you’re doing it.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Ronnie James Dio – the master of Metal
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy everything. My only hate is well Nothing at all. It’s like being a kid in your bedroom with a broom handle pretending to be rocking an audience but doing it for real there’s nothing better.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I’ll let you know in a few years, LOL!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Judas Priest “Painkiller”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
CDs. I think a lot of bands get ripped off due to downloads, but they are both convenient for the car.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Hard to say really. I think it was when we played a few biker rallies – those mf’s are crazy and what crowds! I mean hundreds going mental, but the friendliest people I’ve ever met.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Bush craft and wood carving and drinking beer, but I already do that so nothing new really, LOL!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
I wouldn’t I’d invite about a hundred and have a massive party with a hog roast and shitloads of cold beer, LOL!
What’s next for the band?
Record, rehearse and get ready for gigs next year.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Facebook, Instagram (which at this time is down as it is being updated and revamped) and Twitter.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Every one that you’ve mentioned are different, but the most commonly used one is a roll.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
No I think everything has been covered really.
