Calgary’s Heavy Metal hell rippers Riot City return with their second album “Electric Elite.” Firing all on all cylinders from the outset with an explosion of 80’s NWOBHM nostalgia is opening track ‘Eye of The Jaguar’ which also sets the tone for the album. Early highlight track up next, the solo led slowly builds up the chugging bass, galloping drums and priest worship style vocals, ‘Beyond the Stars’ is a song that demands to played loud whilst vast amounts of air guitar and headbanging takes place, also, when I was very much younger and the riffs would overcome me, I would end up pulling the headphones out of my stereo to very loud noises suddenly filling the room and complaints from parents who I inadvertently woke up, this would’ve absolutely happened in this instance too had this track been around.
A slight change in pace with ‘Tyrant’ which I can imagine being a live favourite with battle worthy chant like chorus, up next was the first single – opening with a slow ballad sound ‘Ghost of Reality’ quickly develops into familiar territory and ends up being one of the faster tracks on “Electric Elite”
Unfortunately, there is no lightsaber in sight for ‘Rise of The Force’ but once again it is embedded full of great musicianship and features my favourite guitar solo of the album. The trio of ‘Paris Nights’ ‘Lucky Diamond’ & final track ‘Severed Ties’ which comes in a nearly ten minutes compliment each other exceptionally well and ends the album as worthily as a laser firing jaguar.
Pure unadulterated Heavy Metal.
