EMQ’s with Purveyor of Chaos

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Canadian Hard Rock/ Power/ Heavy Metal band, Purveyor Of Chaos. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Maxel Black, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I am Maxel Black, the vocalist for Purveyor of Chaos. I don’t play guitar on this album, but I play guitar live on serveral songs with the band. This band in part is the merger of Penetrator with guitarist Bess Ross and myself. The other half is Full Give with bassist Ten Bears and drummer Fast Eddie Coulson.

How did you come up with your band name?

Our bass player Ten Bears came up with the name.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from the Toronto/GTA area in the province of Ontario, Canada.

What is your latest release?

We’ve released our self titled album “Purveyor of Chaos”.

Our latest text video “Fake News” was uploaded last month.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Ronnie James Dio, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest.

What first got you into music?

When I was in Grade 7 Catholic grade school, I was given the choice to attend music class or stay back at school for religious teachings. I chose music as a way to escape, I still do.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I’d like to collaborate with Zakk Wylde, with or without Pantera.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I’d play the Wacken Open Air festival. I think it’s the best metal festival in the world.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Women’s underwear.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay true, stay free, believe in yourself and keep it metal!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

I’d bring back guitarist Randy Rhoads back from the dead. My reasoning is that he left the scene too soon. He was about to experiment and explore new ideas. It would be interesting to see him finally enlighten us with his vision.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I enjoy meeting people and performing at different places with the freedom to express my feelings and music live. What I hate is the fact our country is one of the worst places to make a living as a musician and it’s very difficult for original artists to surive.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I wish the music industry in general would focus on quality music artists and less on fad flavour of the month trend acts. The record labels’ problems began with their obsession for chasing the next new thing.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Dio –  “Holy Diver”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl sounds the best. CD’s are the best sounding portable medium. Downloads are convenient and offer a large selection. If still playable, cassettes are filled with fun memories.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Opening for Devon Townsend at the Opera House, Toronto.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

An unemployed anarchist.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Slash, Iggy Pop and Rob Zombie.

What’s next for the band?

We will contiue to tour and support this album, eventually making a new video featuring the entire band for the first time. When we’ve done touring this ablum we’ll record the second album, which is sure to slay.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We are available for download on Applemusic and Spotify.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I think that could be a Cob.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

If you know anyone over there that could get us some gigs in the UK, let them know that Purveyor of Chaos is ready to explode in a town or city near you!
