Review by Chris Galea
7/10

The singing of David Reece has always had a propensity for melody over aggression – and that included his brief stint with Accept. In “Baptized By Fire”, however, he roughens up the edges to make this album more Metal than Hard Rock.

Most of these 12 songs contain mid-tempo groovy riffs with choruses imbued with melodies that risk drilling into your brain and taking a firm grip while they’re there. Taken individually they’re good songs but altogether the album lacks imagination and, besides, tracks such as ‘Archbishop Of Anarchy’ and ‘Tomorrow Don’t Matter Today’ I found to be downright tedious. Occasionally things do get slightly more interesting, as with ‘No Rest For The Wicked’ or ‘My Heart Burns’.

The Italian band members in this album are competent at their job and David Reece himself still has a solid and powerful voice even though we don’t really get to hear any vocal acrobatics, so to speak. But I’m not entirely sure “Baptized By Fire” will make regular appearances on my playlists for this year.
