Celebrating 40 years of their true US metal attack, New Jersey veterans Attacker are back with their seventh album “The God Particle” which is their first release in six years following on from the “Armor Of The Gods” EP in 2018. Drummer Mike Sabatini may be the only original member of the band but the line-up remains intact, as it has been since 2016, for another dose of US Power Metal glory.

“The God Particle” sees the band generally sticking to their tried and trusted formula they have had in place since their reformation in 2001 in that this is a sound that mixes traditional Heavy Metal and US Power Metal with elements of Speed and Thrash Metal. It’s a short and succinct album with eight songs spread across nearly 34 minutes but not a minute is wasted as “The God Particle” is an album that is bursting with energy and passion. Like all good US Power Metal this is very in your face and on the heavier and aggressive side of the Power Metal genre, with driving rhythms, crushing riffs and a snarling vocal attack from Bobby Lucas. Songs such as ‘Curse Of Creation’, ‘Kingdom Of Iron’ and the title track are full throttle Metal attacks with pounding drums, a barrage of riffs but having enough melodies and hooks to ensure this is still within the realms of Melodic Metal. For Power Metal though this is absolutely crushing stuff.

One element that doesn’t quite work on the album are the vocals from Bobby Lucas which, while in keeping with the tone and ferocity of the music, can be a bit overbearing at times with too many screams and shrieks. It’s a minor criticism though as the music more than makes up for this. Attacker are 40 years veterans of the scene and despite not deviating from what they have done before, “The God Particle” is another fine album from the band and a great example of old school US Power Metal still flourishing in the 21st century.
