Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with St. Petersburg, Russia based Rock band, Riff Action Family. Huge thanks to Bassist, Pavel, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hello! My name is Pavel. I play bass. I came to this band a few years ago, when the boys already had 3 LPs in their history, so I had to learn a lot of songs very fast!

How did you come up with your band name?

I have no idea how they did this, but I’ve heard that the ex-guitar player invented it. Such a strange name.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

I am from Mother-Russia, and there’s a lot of metal: Severstal for example, or Derepasca’s (Russian oligarch) Aluminium factory. There are a lot of rocks in Russia too, for example Ural or Kavkaz! We like it very much.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

“Chameleon” is the latest LP from Riff Action Family and I’m playing bass there too!

‘Hurricane’ (Audio)

Who have been your greatest influences?

My greatest influence is Lowriders, of course.

What first got you into music?

Chicks and booze did that for me. I thought that, if I could play bass, every pretty girl will like me.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

My dream is to play with Oleg Gazmanov and jump with him and with my bass on one stage.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Some beer festival, I guess, somewhere in Germany!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

A wet kiss.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Please do not become a bass player ever.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

John Bonham.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Best thing is playing live and changing the energy with the crowd.

Worst thing is the headache you get the morning after!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Conservatism of labels. This is a very risky industry, and no one wants to lose out when counting on SMB, out of format.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“The Eminem Show”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Marble machine

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

In kindergarten for my parents when I was little pig in a Christmas party

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Lucifer, Jesus Christ, Mohamed, Bevis and Butthead

What’s next for the band?

Next LP, Euro tour through post-covid Europe, some New videos.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Every social media that is possible to use from YouTube and Instagram to Weibo.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

They are drugs.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
