Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview, L.A., California based Alternative Trip-Hop/Rock band, Zumbi. Huge thanks to vocalist Dimitri Craven, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Dimitri Craven and I am the singer. We started around 20 years ago and broke up after 5. I decided to start the band up again because I was bored with Covid, I started praying and said ” I want to play again, I want to release our album”
How did you come up with your band name?
The guitarist was into African art, so I asked the guitar player did he have any names and he said “Zumbi”
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from L.A.; California and we don’t have a Metal/Rock scene here. People in L.A. are into indie and the EDM scene.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our Latest release is our Album “Ahead Of Time” newest single/video is ‘Desert Flower’

Who have been your greatest influences?
My greatest influence is Prince, The Clash and New Order. But we like all types of music.
What first got you into music?
I first got into music at around 12 and I got my first starting playing bass at 15. I got into music because it was my way of expressing my thoughts.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
I would love to collaborate with New Order, they are my favourite band.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I would love to play Coachella music festival.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I think someone wanted to buy me dinner LOL.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Please never give up on your dreams.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
The Clash
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The freedom that we have, it turning into a socialist country.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I hate social media, it sucks.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
The Clash – “Greatest Hits”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl, then CD, I still love to read lyrics.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The Key Club in L.A., there where so many people and we gave a great performance.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I know, a politician or writer.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Mather Luther King, Jesus, Mother Theresa, Donner Summer and Prince.
What’s next for the band?
We plan on releasing a couple more videos, making the second album and touring.
