Review by Rick Eaglestone
7/10
Originally founded in 1993, Enthroned are considered one of the leading lights of the Belgian Black Metal scene and to celebrate this “Hadean – The Early Years Collection” is a 5-disc box set featuring four full albums and one EP from the band’s early years on the label Blackened, plus bonus tracks.
Up first in this boxset is “Prophecies Of Pagan Fire” which is still by far the band’s strongest work, admittedly it is something I haven’t revisited it in some time but from the moment the intro kicked into ‘Deny The Holy Book of Lies’ I was immediately transported to the first time I heard it. Following this ‘Towards The Skullthrone Of Satan’, which has some great live additions such as ‘Evil Church’ and ‘The Conqueror ‘.
As this is an early collection of material, the box set also contains the tribute EP “Regie Sathanas (A Tribute To Cernunnos)”, recorded as a tribute in the drummer’s honour, featuring a ton of demo tracks as well as a previously unreleased track recorded by Cernunnos and unknown until the release of this set.
Concluding the set are the albums “The Apocalypse Manifesto” and “Armoured Bestial Hell” the atter of which I had not listened to before this review. The cover artwork was commissioned exclusively for this release and handled by Nornagest himself. Additional unreleased archive photos supplied by Nornagest appear in the booklet.
