Review by Oli Gonzalez
10/10

Well, I’m going to get straight to the point and make this simple; this is one of the easiest 10/10 ratings I’ve ever given! I stumbled across the UK based Post-Rockers out of curiosity and with an inkling to expand my knowledge of the genre. I genuinely did not expect to have my mind blown and to then tell everybody who comes within ten feet of me about this band! I’ve listened to the album maybe four times already and I’m sure that number will reach double figures by the time it’s published! So, why has this album had such a profound impact on me?

Perhaps it’s the trio’s ability to seamlessly ebb and weave between calmer moments of tranquil bliss and aesthetic quality to straight full throttle intensity that would make any self-respecting Death Metal act sit up and take notice! The pacing of the album is absolutely beautiful too though. No section outstayed its welcome, and the trio are clear masters of human psychology, just knowing when to sooth you with melodically stunning passages and the aforementioned skull crushing intensity!

How a trio can muster up this kind of magic and to sound so full is truly remarkable. Who produced this masterpiece? Why, Lewis Johns, working with acclaimed acts Employed To Serve, and Svalbard amongst many others. Whatever he was paid to do this, triple it and add several zeros! If I was in a band, I’d want this man in my team. Every instrument is given a chance to shine under the spotlight and given all the attention it deserves to maximise its full potential. Maybe less is more here and why we get such an incredible end product, instead of extra instruments clogging up the mix. Those who say instrumental music lacks sentiment without the lyrics will be proven dead wrong when they listen to this. Each thunderous hit of the drum, avalanching strum of the guitar and soul piercing strike of the keys will demonstrate why words aren’t always needed.

Which song stood out to me? Honestly all of them! It’s tricky to isolate one song and analyse it. This is an album that’s designed to be enjoyed in its entirety. From start to finish, back to front, top to bottom…pick your analogy, just listen to and admire it!

Fans of Post Rock legends Caspian and Explosions In The Sky will be satiated here, as well as those who prefer bands on the heavier and emotional Metal end of that scale, for instance Amenra. Million Moons are for more seasoned fans of the genre as well as being a more than adequate gateway band into the world of Post Rock.
