“Church Of the Pistoleros” is the new album from Gypsy Pistoleros, a London-based band influenced by the 80s Hair Metal bands from Sunset Strip: Poison, Motley Crue, LA Guns, Faster Pussycat, just to name some of them.  And Gypsy Pistoleros also brings to the mix some PUNK 77 attitude. I used to name that kind of sonority as Sleaze Metal – catchy chorus allied with crazy instrumentation as heard on “Church Of the Pistoleros”.

The album opens with ‘Church of Pistoleros’, which sounds melodic and right away falls into a catchy chorus repeated to exhaustion, until it takes over your brain and you can’t let it go, and it seems to last, like, forever! On ‘Shadow Walkers, ’ it becomes clear Vince Neil has a huge influence on the vocal performance.

‘Whatever Happened to the Old Town’ and a couple of other songs establish the band’s own personality, inspired by the very first albums of the above-mentioned Sunset Strip bands. To be mentioned, the cover song for ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ is as disposable as expected – it only would be worse if the chosen song was ‘Macarena’ or something like that!

Anyway, Gypsy Pistoleros’ “Church of the Pistoleros” is a fun 36 minutes spread over 10 songs! That is definitely what I consider a Sleaze Metal band. At the end of the day, who cares about boring arrangements and endless song’s bridges  – don’t bore us, go straight to the chorus!
