EMQs With GRAVEMASS
EMQs With GRAVEMASS
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Canadian Blackened Death Metal band, Gravemass. Huge thanks to their vocalist, Lorde Heathen, for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Lorde Heathen. Unholy Goblin screeching and Demonic growls. Gravemass formed in East Vancouver June 2024. Mayan Hate was crushing riffs in the Jam space and as soon as I heard the majesty we formed Gravemass on the spot, shortly thereafter, Bowels of Hell, Murderer of Colonizers, and Destroyer of Souls joined.
How did you come up with your band name?
The name Gravemass has a double meaning; obviously, the Graveyard is the best place to hold a Black Mass, and the message is indeed very grave.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We hail from Canada, East Vancouver, British Columbia. The music scene has always been very alive in Vancouver, and the underground Metal/Punk/Hardcore scene is always spawning new talent.
What is your latest release?
New album “THIS IS THE WAY” Out March 6th 2026 and new video for the title track below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sR9gy-AD8-E
Who have been your greatest influences?
For this band, for me personally, Blashemy, Venom, early Slayer, Morbid Angel, Immortal, Behemoth, Watain.
What first got you into music?
I was visiting Portugal at 12 years old with my cousin, and we descended into a deep cave under a monastery with a giant ghetto blaster. At full volume, we listened to “We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll” by Black Sabbath and smoked some hash. That was it, that experience set me on the path.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
There is no one and no band on the radar for collaboration.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Gravemass’ goal is to hit as many festivals as possible. Europe is our target – the UK is at the top of our list.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Blood.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
JOIN US!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Ronnie James Dio.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Sharing the music and the message with the people. What is there to hate?
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
MP3 compression, and the streaming business model.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Slayer – “Reign in Blood”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Armstrong Metal Fest 2025.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I would be dead or in jail.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Anthony Bourdain, Nergal, David Lee Roth, Abbath, Anthony Hopkins.
What’s next for the band?
New album, new videos, endless touring.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
That would be a Cob.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Welcome to the Gravemass family. We will see you on the road, horns held high!
