The Motorsport Lounge, Llandudno

So, let’s just start by mentioning the venue first as it’s quite a new one. The Motorsport Lounge, Llandudno is a small venue but has a twist. Downstairs there’s a collection of sports cars and the odd motorbike. There’s a Lamborghini, Lotus, Metro 6R4 and a few other nice cars. Upstairs is where the magic happens. There’s a lounge, bar, and a small stage, but the sound there is brilliant.
Opening the night was Sunspy. They’re a 4 piece hailing from North Wales and this was the first time they had played live for 16 years, but you wouldn’t have noticed. They started out, back in the day, with an indie sound. But they have a heavier sound now, especially since Tom joined them on guitar. Their songs are catchy, and you can hear influences from the 60’s, 70’s and 90’s. Well worth checking out, and great support act for what was to come later that night.

After a great start, it was time for the main event. Spike was introduced to the crowd, and the first thing he said was “this guy has just tried to sell me a Lamborghini, doesn’t he know I’m unemployed now?!” This set the tone for the night. Spike and Chris (Heilmann) were on top form. Singing songs from various artist with stories in-between, they had the crowd singing and laughing in equal measures. Spike’s voice was brilliant, and at such an intimate venue the crowd really felt part of the gig.
If you get chance to see him on this tour then you’ll be in for a right treat. Absolutely brilliant night!
