EMQ’s With Misleading Days
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Italian Progressive Metal/ Djent band, Misleading Days. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Alessandro Ienaro, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Alessandro Ienaro, guitar player and composer of the album Kintsugi. The band started during the composition process and involved Luca Imerito on bass and Ruben Di Viggiano on drums, very old friends of mine and great music players.
How did you come up with your band name?
The band name is about the current historical and social period, where technology level grows at the speed of light and human beings walk at a very low speed in comparison. It creates a lot of contrast and make me think that every day is a Misleading Day.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
I’m from the countryside around Turin in northern Italy. The Metal scene is growing again, after a long period of stalemate. Searching for new material is always a good way to find something interesting in the underground.
What is your latest release?
The new EP is called “Kintsugi “and the last single/video is ‘37’, the second track of the EP itself.
Who have been your greatest influences?
First of all Meshuggah, Animals as leaders and Plini, but I don’t forget The bands I grew up with, like PanterA as first, Tool and all the thrash and tech-death metal of the early 90’s!!!
What first got you into music?
When I was a child I was surrounded by friends, older than me, with a very vast and different music taste. It brought me into music first. It was great, and still is, to be surrounded by such great possibility of choice and will to share.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I think that, except great world know band, the main characteristic of this hypothetical band must be the freedom of composition, so mainly prog metal band. It would be great for me!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Wacken!!!! Ah ah ah
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Hoping to have a lot of fans in future, up to now is a request of signature on a copy of my album, it was great and weird at the same time.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thanks, first of all, and continue to listen music from any different direction, because it will make you and us a non-static world, which we need more as music passionate.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Without any hesitation Dimebag Darrell (and Eddie Van Halen if possible!)
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love the freedom and the greatness of the field which we call music. I hate the limited space of a single life to do all the things I would like.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I think that it should be more focused on the artist, spreading more the tracks and the nature of the composition, instead to see mainly the money, which maybe returns back anyway. I’m lucky because Ænima Recordings is very keen on the music production and its focus is the artist first!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Vulgar Display of Power”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I think that the worst is downloading and digital compression algorithms for the quality and the best is vinyl, in my opinion.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The release party of “Kintsugi”! But also the final show of the Tour Music Fest in Rome where I played as finalist, it was great!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I think a typical frustrated Engineer, Which I am anyway ah ah ah!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Fredrick Thordendal, Mattias IA Eklundh, Tosin Abasi, Tomas Haake and Plini.
What’s next for the band?
I’m working on new material thinking to the evolution of my project. For sure it will be more heavy, guitar riff driven and rhythmically more focused on poly meters and modern sounds and landscapes.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
It should be “bun”!?!?
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I would like to thank Mattia Garimanno and his staff at Ænima Recordings for trusting in this project and I hope this collaboration will last for a long time.
