2026 is shaping up to be an impressive year for Pittsburgh’s Nunslaughter. Highlights include an open slot with the returning Acid Bath as well as a multi-date tour of central Europe. With the backing of BLKIIBLK, the band proclaims that they can “ram the black horn of Satan down the throats of every metalhead on the planet, spitting fresh venom and blistering hatred directly into the rotting face of Christianity” with the release of “Satanic Chaos Legions”. 

Trying a bit hard to be edgy? Looking at the song titles reinforces this, too. 

‘Jesus Fucking Dies’. ‘Rotten Messiah’. ‘Cathedral Of Stench’.  Not the most original titles now, are they? I mean, the whole anti-Christianity thing has been done to death in metal now. It’s hardly going to shock anybody in 2026, especially since the likes of Deicide and Glen Benton had their fun torturing those of the Christian faith throughout the 90s. Even 30 years ago, the production values of Decide’s albums were far superior to what Nunslaughter is putting out this year. 

There’s creating a gritty and raw product, fine. Then there’s creating a lazy, half-assed product that felt like it was recorded on a smartphone or one of those budget voice recorders. Genuinely, there’s no excuse for such sloppy production values in an era when professional standard recording software is available to pretty much anybody with a basic laptop and internet connection. Also, bass? Hello! Where are you? Too much scratchy, abrasive guitar and nowhere enough of that chest-rattling low end. The clangy rattle of a bass tone becomes more salient in the introduction to ‘Peukharist’, in a slower, more deliberate number that provides some respite from the speed of the album. One of the more memorable moments of the album, a highlight, seems a little generous to say. 

I genuinely believe there are bands in my local area putting out better records than the ‘music’ Nunslaughter are offering.
