When music catches your ear certain things stand out that make you intrigued. For me, an alluring and satisfying vocalist that has an interesting flair sets my heart ablaze. If you then add passionate lyrics you have me sold.
Charming Liars were first introduced to me on a Spotify playlist. The bands single ‘Soul’ played and within the first 30 seconds the voice had me hooked. The words being sung and that soothing and beautiful vocal pattern made me want to know more. Then the chorus just explodes and wants to showcase a positive and inviting happiness, one that we are all losing in this day and age. Once that song had played out it was easy for me to follow the London and now Los Angeles based band Charming Liars.
The band set out to release single songs over the past year but with “Thought, Flesh & Bone; they have collected and integrated all those singles and some new tracks into a powerful Alternative, Pop, Rock, Electronic piece of artistry.
‘Like A Drug is probably my second favourite track because, yet again, the voice of Kiliyan Maguire just engulfs your soul. This track is more daring, seductive and alluring but the song overall is just catchy as hell, moody and intriguing.
‘Ocean’ delves into a more dance electric type ambience. It has higher energy, is real poppy and also a fun song. ‘Spiral Out’ keeps with the more techy electronic engagement but, very definitely has a rock sounding backbone keeping the song protected and multi levelled.
‘Deeper’ is just captivating and, once again showcases the vocal side of things.
Novacaine’ has the flair of 90’s soundscapes but then slowly segues into a more melodic, sweet style track with a lullaby like feeling.
‘Insomnia’ is purely fascinating from its combo of rock and synth like pop flair but, yet again, showcases that voice which is just so smooth and captivating. ‘Something Dark’ is a force of nature. I’m not sure how to explain the alluring qualities of the mood shifts on this track. It might just be a case of clicking the button to listen because it has me hooked.
All in all if you love the feeling of eclectic sounds with uplifting pop elements and alternative rock roots which make it all come together like perfection then “Thought, Flesh & Bone” is the album for you and Charming Liars the band for you.
