EMQ’s with RATKING
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Perth, Western Australia based Hardcore/Punk band Ratking. Huge thanks to guitarist AJ Teo for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name’s AJ and I play guitar, we’ve been together about five years now, spawning from the ashes of a bunch of other failed bands.
How did you come up with your band name?
We were at a mate’s house throwing lemons at the fence when a giant rat came out. We dubbed him the ‘Ratking’ and the name stuck.
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
We’re from Australia and it’s a shithouse haha.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
We recently released a single called ‘Cruel Intent’ along with a video clip too!
Who have been your greatest influences?
Influences in total vary hugely, but specifically for Ratking our influences come from bands such as Wavves and Trash Talk.
What first got you into music?
My father, he’s been a music teacher for 30+ years now. He started me on the guitar when I was just five.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
We always wanted to collaborate with Ratking, the NYC hip hop group, but they’re dead now, so no real chance of that happening.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Knotfest! Purely because it means that Slipknot would know who we are.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
We’ve never been given any weird gifts, but we also get given weed, which is dope!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Flat Earth or Globe Earth?
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Bohemian Rhapsody!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Travelling the world! Not having any money!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
More money, less problems!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Ghost – “Infestissumam”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Spotify.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Our EP release for “Serf” in February 2018!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
A full-time Ghost fan!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Papa Emeritus the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Cardinal Copia and my cat’s.
What’s next for the band?
New album, new tours and new video clips!
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Spotify – https://tinyurl.com/y2g8h6zu
Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
I’ve never had a jaffa cake before, but from the sounds of it, probs a biscuit?
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you!
