EMQ’s with Heretic’s Dream
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Rome, Italy based Alternative Metal band Heretic’s Dream. Huge thanks to them for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hello there, my name is Francesca and I am Heretic’s Dream vocalist. The band was formed in 2010, while my husband (the guitarist Andrej Surace) and I were living in the UK.
How did you come up with your band name?
I was trying to find a name for this project my husband and I had in mind, and eventually came up with this idea, to stress dichotomy between my music world (mainly pop and dark electronic) and Andrej’s (mainly metal/thrash). Actually, putting the two of us in the same music project sounded like a heresy, and at the same time a beautiful dream.
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
Though Andrej and I gave life to the band while we were based in the UK, after 4 years we had to go back to Italy, our origin Country. Underground metal scene here is quite vivid, though competition among bands ruins everything.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
“Resilience”, full length album released in November, 2018.
Who have been your greatest influences?
We are 5 different people with very different music background, thanks God. This allows us to be influenced by practically all genres.
What first got you into music?
My Mother’s death. If it wasn’t for this tragic event, I would have probably never met my husband and never started singing.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
If I had to choose a metal band, I would say Hacken.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Maybe Rock in Rio, it would be great to be in South America.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Russians are the best: the came to us with Vodka bottles, boxes of chocolate, and Lego toys looking like us.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Listen to any kind of music, free your mind.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Frank Zappa. A real genius.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Best part is being on stage. Worst art is social activity: I hate all kind of social networks.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Today it’s all about the money. Even signing with big labels. So sad!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
10000 days by Tool.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I like listening to music when I’m in the car, so actually CD is the best mean for me.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
That at the Izvestia HALL in Moscow.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
What I am, an electronic engineer.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Madonna, Dave Gahan, Sharon den Adel, my son and my husband.
What’s next for the band?
We are about to shoot a video for a single.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
I am pretty sure we had a Facebook page and an Instagram page too, as well as YouTube and all the rest. As said, I do not take care of this aspect.
