EMQ’s with Agonize The Serpent

Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Swedish Melodic Metalcore band Agonize The Serpent. Huge thanks to Guitarist Daniel Rybeck for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hi, I’m Daniel and I play guitar.
We’re a Metalcore band from Falkenberg, Sweden formed 2015.
Teddie and I met through a mutual friend, he sent me a couple of demos and I was hooked. It didn’t take long before we became a 5 piece band and recorded our first single ‘Cloak & Dagger’
Since then we’ve released an EP, an album and a bunch of music videos, had e few line-up changes and played live around Sweden.
How did you come up with your band name?
We had a list of names and voted.
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
Sweden. The scene used to be amazing here and I can really see a big difference when I go to concerts now compared to when I grew up. The metal scene is definitely better in Germany and Eastern Europe for example, so that’s where we want to go next.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
Our debut album “Pray For A Plague”
Who have been your greatest influences?
I’d say my greatest influences have been Sonic Syndicate and the other bands around our hometown that made me love going to live shows and start playing myself.
What first got you into music?
I remember that I went to a market with my family when i was around 6 years old and I bought my first CD, “Alive!” with Kiss. Not because i liked their music, i just thought they looked cool, haha!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Sam Carter of Architects
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I would choose Rock am Ring in Germany. I went there last year and had an amazing time, the festival books a lot of other Metalcore bands and has around 90,000 visitors so it would definitely be a good place for us to get our name and music out there.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
At our very first gig I got a pair of dirty underwear thrown at me. I am not supposed to say this but… it was men’s underwear, used by a friend of mine!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thank you very much for listening and supporting our music! Keep your eyes open for new releases; they’re just around the corner.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Tom Searle!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The time and interest we share within the band and of course the live shows we play.
I don’t like how complicated things can get when everyone doesn’t share the same vision or wants different things. But it’s a relationship with five people, of course it’s complicated.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I’d like to take away the possibilities we have to listen to all music in the world, wherever we are, all the time. Even though I use all digital platforms myself I think we’d appreciate music even more if we had some kind of limitation. I still listen to albums but a lot of people don’t seem interested in that anymore, they just listen to the singles and move on to the next band/artist. This would make local live shows more interesting and appreciated as well.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
In Flames – “Come Clarity”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
When we shared stage with The Unguided and Corroded!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I would move to different places around the world, try new things and hopefully find something I’d love to do, some extreme sport maybe?
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Oliver Sykes, Zach Johnson (The Ghost Inside), Jim Carrey, Ian McKellen (As Gandalf) and Rihanna
What’s next for the band?
We are releasing a new single and video in June and after that we’re going back to the studio to record three more songs.
