EMQ’s with THE SAVIOR COMPLEX
Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Las Vegas based Avant-Garde Rock/Metal band The Savior Complex! Huge thanks to bass guitarist Roxxi for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Roxxi Dott/ Bass Guitar/ I am a notorious image specialist for rock bands in Hollywood for over 25 years. I styled Mr. X back in 1999 when he opened for Slash’s SnakePit at the Whiskey. We have remained friends and now I am bass player in his band The Savior Complex. How this came about was a phone call to style him again for Halo. Mr. X was showcasing solo in his video and I changed that. He needed a bad guy. And that was me. Mr. X, knowing that I’m a third generation bass player and have been a staple on the Sunset Strip, he picked me up immediately due to my vision insanity in styling his video.
How did you come up with your band name?
Mr. X came up with the name!
What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
I’m from the motherfuckin’ USA, Hollywood, where Metal and Rock were born!!!!!
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)?
‘Halo’! It is the first single off of our EP and ‘Caroline’ will be next.
Who have been your greatest influences?
My father who died and left me his bass and rig! Sid Vicious for not giving a fuck and coming with it! Flea for his slap technique and Bootsy Collins for his fuckin funk!
What first got you into music?
My dad dying and me discovering that my grandfather was a pioneer in Bluegrass and Hillbilly starting in 1928. Pops died and I inherited his bass and rig. I strapped it on my back and hit the Sunset Strip. Six weeks later I was playing with a band called Cockpit.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
It would be with the band I’m in. I believe in Mr. X, his longevity and my insanity equals success.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Ozzfest! No doubt. I was in jail in San Diego when I discovered Marilyn Manson and I became the Anti-Christ Superstar.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Hatred!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Pay close attention because shit’s about to get real! Time to bring back real music to the scene!
If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
My dad! He played with Joey D and the Starlighters.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I most enjoy the thrill of the ride. I hate nothing about being a musician.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Changing the power of positions controlling it!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Marilyn Manson – “Antichrist Superstar”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
8-Tracks!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The wrap party for the film Sympathy For Delicious. Mark Ruffalo directed it. Orlando Bloom and Juliette Lewis also starred. I was the key hair stylist and designed all of the actors’ looks.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Precision driver!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Marilyn Manson, John Waters, the person who invented the Post-It Note, Mickey Mouse, and Your Mom.
What’s next for the band?
Working with director Dean Karr and ghost writer Steffen Lieber on the music video for ‘Caroline’!
