EMQ’s with UZZIEL

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Micheldorf, Austria based Thrash Metal band Uzziel. Huge thanks to guitarist Francis for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, my name is Francis and I am the guitarist from Uzziel.

10 years ago, our singer Mex and our second guitarist Hati decided to create something new. It didn´t take long and they found the other bandmembers. These were the first steps with Uzziel. After a while they recognized that some members didn’t fit into the band. After a big crash three people left the band, so Hati and Mex had to look for new musicians.

It was not easy, but at last they found a new drummer –Tom- and a new guitarist- that was me. Since then it is working well, and we are now well recognized by the Austrian Metal scene. And it has also started working in Germany.

How did you come up with your band name?

Uzziel is the name of an archangel. So, with the name of our band, we wanted to play with something controversial. That´s why we tried to combine a good thing like an angel with our dark music. You can find these contradictions everywhere in our music.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from upper Austria and I think the scene here is ok. But we have the same problems as most of the bands in Austria. There are certain musical styles that can be successful, but they are not called Rock or Metal. You have to choose what we call Schlagermusic, Rap or Radiopop to be recognized. We are well known in the Austrian Metal scene but to earn money with it is very hard. So, it may stay a hobby for a long time.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We released our second album “This Fear” in November 2019. Of course, there are some videos on YouTube too.

Acid Rain (Lyric Video)

Who have been your greatest influences?

Iron Maiden

What first got you into music?

I am into music since I was 6 years old. I played flute, drums and then guitar. Into Rock music I was surely driven by the electric guitar. When I was a child I listened to the Beatles and Abba records of my older brother. At 13 I heard my first Maiden songs. And that was it.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

As a very big Maiden fan I would choose them. And if they do not have time, which I would not understand, I would choose David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken, because it is the biggest and most famous metal festival.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I don´t get gifts, nobody likes me. 😉

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Come to our concerts, buy our merchandise and our records, I need the money because I don´t want to work anymore.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

That´s difficult, there is more than one, but I think I would choose Frank Zappa, because I miss his romantic lyrics.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The coolest parts are creating songs and playing concerts, not so good I think, as I mentioned before, the state of the music scene here in Austria. The biggest shit has got most of the success and bands that play real hand-made and good music are hardly recognized by the media.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Bands should have time again to grow and to get bigger. Like everywhere no one gives you time anymore.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son” by Maiden of course!

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl has the best sound, and the covers are great but I am a lazy guy so I would personally choose downloads.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Opening for Sepultura in Wels, Schlachthof. There were a lot of people and they liked what we were doing on stage.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I don´t know. I cannot imagine a life without music and I have never thought about it.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My wife, my 2 stepchildren with their partners. Sounds a bit boring but what the fuck!

What’s next for the band?

We are working on the third album and we will make one or two videos from songs off our second album.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We only use Facebook. Because we think there is the biggest chance to get to Metalheads around the world.

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I don´t know the name, but I think it is a biscuit.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I hope you will see us live when this corona-shit is finally over.
