EMQ’s with CHAOSEUM
Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Lausanne, Switzerland based Metalcore/ Crossover Metal band Chaoseum Huge thanks to guitarist Valery Veings for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Valery. I’m a guitar player for Chaoseum. Loïc and I started this band in January 2018 with the main objective of making music for the stage. We asked Greg to join us behind the drums. Our singer, CK Smile arrived later, in February 2019.
How did you come up with your band name?
We were looking for an original name that matches our makeup. We thought of the museum of chaos, that’s how the name Chaoseum came to be.
What country are you from and what is the metal scene like there?
We are from Lausanne in Switzerland. Metal is not the most popular kind of music, but we can find some good bands and really good musicians.
What is your latest release (Album, EP, Single, Video)
A video from ‘Into My Split’ on YouTube. This is the first single from our next album “Second Life”
Watch it here:
Who have been your greatest influences?
A lot of bands. Bullet For My Valentine, Korn and Slipknot, Mudvayne, Trivium, Static-X, Deftones…
What first got you into music?
Personally, when I discovered Iron Maiden. I watched “Live After Death” on tv so many times. I thought to myself: you should also play guitar, like those guys…
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Our new album will be close to Korn’s style. But so many bands would be interesting.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
All of them!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
We were lucky to never receive such strange gifts!!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
We hope to see you soon! We miss you!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Only one, that is not correct for the others….but ok, I choose one: Cliff Burton, because he died so young and it was not what he wanted and neither because of his hygiene of life. It’s the same for Randy Rhoads and many more…
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Being on stage is my first motivation. In this moment, I don’t like to write new songs. I prefer when Loïc end CK make them, they are better.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
They have to do something better for new bands, prepare the big bands for tomorrow, when the giants are retired.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son. I discovered Iron Maiden when this album was born.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
CD’s.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
I’ve got some really good memories from USA and Russia, but my number one is at “Les Docks” in Lausanne.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I started to learn music when I was 15. And that was my passion which takes a lot of time. Without music, I will have invested all my time in studying medicine.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Some guys I meet during tours: Max and Gloria Cavalera, Tarja, Julian Barrett and Oli Beaudoin.
What’s next for the band?
Really soon, a new video. On September 25th, a new album with a release party in Switzerland. Our European tour with Fleshgod Apocalypse and Ex-Deo is postponed until Autumn 2021 due to COVID-19.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Oh, Jaffa Cakes! I like this biscuit 🙂

Thank you to share this time with you.
