EMQ’s with THE HARVEST TRAIL

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Perth, Western Australia based Melodic Death Metal band, The Harvest Trail. Huge thanks to vocalist/guitarist, Brendon Capriotti, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Brendon here, I do vocals and guitars with The Harvest Trail. The band started in 2020 as a side project of members from Claim The Throne and Red Descending.

How did you come up with your band name?

The lyrical themes are based on Australian true crime tales. When backpackers visit Australia and wish to work in the farms and fruit picking jobs, they often follow the available work around the country, which is sometimes known as the harvest trail. There have been many missing persons on the trail, feared kidnapped and murdered.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

Perth, Western Australia. There are plenty of underground local bands here. At the moment it is very healthy during the Covid pandemic because Perth is quite isolated and we have avoided much spread of the virus. So, there are heaps of live shows happening, and without tours then the local gigs are very popular.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our debut album is called ‘Instinct’, and it comes out on 5th March 2021.

‘Hunter’ (Official Music Video)

Who have been your greatest influences?

Early Scandinavian melodic death/thrash bands like At The Gates, Dimension Zero, Carnal Forge, plus early stuff from The Haunted & Soilwork.

What first got you into music?

Hearing the unlimited amount of unique sounds and styles that can come out of instruments.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Would have to say the Bjorler dudes from At The Gates & The Haunted.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Metal Days in Slovenia. Playing in front of a big crowd, but also a great excuse to holiday in a great area by the river for a week!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

With another band, I have been gifted Maple Syrup from a Canadian, and chopsticks in Japan.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I would be impressed that we had fans so early on, so would just say thanks and lets have a beer!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Jon Nodtveidt for another Dissection album.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Love being able to create expression through music, and spend time with bandmates. Hate that I have to juggle music with a day job.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

More revenue streams.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

The Haunted – “Made Me Do It”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

CD’s for me. Good for the car, and dig the booklets.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

70000 Tons of Metal with Claim The Throne

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Working boring office jobs.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

All 5 members of my other band Claim The Throne. Would party hard.

What’s next for the band?

Hopefully borders open up soon so we can have a crack at touring. But apart from that we’ll be writing the next album.
