EMQ’s with BLACK PARABLE

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Rhein-Main Region, Germany based Alt Metal/Rock band, Black Parable. Huge thanks to all of them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Michel: My Name is Michel Anacker; I play the bass guitar in the band Black Parable.

Jan: My name is Jan Rudolph; I play the guitar and sing.

Julian: My name is Julian Zieschang; I play the drums. Michel and I created the Band back in 2018 and were looking for a singer before we met Jan at a local concert. Back then we did our band rehearsals in my old apartment and we invited him to a session. We had a good chemistry, so he joined in and we rented a small rehearsal room near Jan’s home village, where we’ve been writing music ever since.

How did you come up with your band name?

Michel: Jan came up with the name and I thought about it some minutes.

Jan: A former work colleague of mine showed me a school project in which she had to write a story in the literature form of a Parable, which is mostly written in third person and with a figurative meaning. I thought that was very fitting for our lyrics.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

Michel: I am from the Rhein-Main Region in Germany. It has one of the most fluctuant metal scenes in Germany and is just a great place to be.

Jan: I’m living in a small village, far away from the city, so it was nearly a culture shock when I first got introduced to the music scene there. Everyone supports everyone in all terms and the bands look out for each other, not to mention all the many people attending the concerts. That’s the best thing you can find there!

Julian: When we started my apartment was also near the Rhein-Main Region, meanwhile I moved closer to the countryside where our rehearsal space and Headquarter is.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Julian: Our latest release is also our first! On December 4th we released “Absinthe”, a five Track long EP that we recorded last year.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Michel: The greatest influences on the music we released so far are probably Nirvana, Gojira, At The Gates, Korn and Slipknot.

Julian: I would agree on that. I would also add King Dude, Buddy Rich, Joe Morello, Virgil Donati, Cypress Hill as far as what influences I brought into the Band from my part.

What first got you into music?

Michel: I got my first album with 7 years, “Live Insurrection” by Halford, one of the best live albums ever made. My big start into the music world was much later with the “In Waves” album by Trivium, which opened up my thinking about music.

Julian: Playing Bass when I was a teenager and my first record, Green Days’ – “Bullet in a Bible”.

Jan: I would say it was mostly the influence of my father, who played in a band himself back in the day. He once in a while brought me with him to a show of his band and later, I wanted to do something like that too.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Julian: King Dude, Gojira or Top Secret Drum Corps

Jan: If we would do a collaboration, my first pick would be Third Wave. They are very good friends of ours and have made some really good songs. Would be very interesting to see what a Black Parable and Third Wave Song would sound like, other than one sang together at Karaoke.

Michel: No one really. I want to evolve my skills and our music. We want to define our own sound and develop it. If I had to think of someone it would be a friend of mine, she is a classical musician and would help us out on a new piece that we want to arrange in different styles.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Michel: I would choose the “Neuborn Open Air festival” in Germany because I want to have a great time and present my music to a music-loving audience that just has the greatest time in its life.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Michel: Co2. Like what the F*

Jan: A sign. “Get naked, we paid for this”.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Michel: Stream. Our. Songs! 11!!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Julian: No one, everyone and everything has its time.

Michel: Paganini.

Jan: Panini.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Michel: Music is pure feeling. As most musicians, I can’t do it for a living.

Julian: I love being on stage, growing on my instrument and as a band. So far there is nothing that I hate about it.

Jan: I can only agree, so far there is nothing that I don’t like about it.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Michel: Give the artists their well-deserved money, fgs.

Julian: That more Rock and Metal is being played on the mainstream radios.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Michel: At the Gates – “At War With Reality”

Jan: Rammstein – “Herzeleid”

Julian: Cypress Hill – “Greatest Hits From The Bong”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Julian: Cassettes!

Michel: Vinyl is best, download is most practical and cassette is the only medium my car plays.

Jan: Vinyl.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Jan: We haven’t played that many yet actually, but I still remember our first one, very good.

Julian: Of course, the first!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Michel: I am doing lots of stuff.

Julian: Driving a Locomotive for the “Deutsche Bahn”.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Julian: Bob Ross, Otto von Bismarck, Grigori Rasputin, Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi.

Michel: I don’t do dinner parties, come on.

What’s next for the band?

Michel: Getting finished with our Album.

Jan: And hopefully playing gigs again as soon as possible.
