EMQ’s with MIND ERASURE
Hi Everyone. Welcome to another new EMQs interview, this time with Greek Blackened Death Metal band, Mind Erasure. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Lampros, and Drummer, Vasilis, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
We are MIND ERASURE – a Blackened Death Metal band. MIND ERASURE where formed back in 2007, for several years we were inactive or just rehearsing. In 2013 we released a promo and we hit the stage as an opening act for Rotting Christ. We have played in several shows and we have released a demo and a video clip for our song unsullied.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Corfu, Greece. There are not many bands here, only a few, but they do excellent work on their genre.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
On 23/1 our first video single ‘AZRAEL’ premiered on you tube, and on 13/2 our first album “CONNIVE” will be released.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Lampros: For me it’s Behemoth and Rotting Christ. I also read a lot and practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Vasilis: I’ve been listening to all kinds of genres inside Rock and Metal through the years, but lately I mostly listen to Extreme Metal. I also played classical music in various marching bands here on the island, and I love that big sound they can create. Soundtrack music is very inspirational, and you can use it to create feelings depending on what you’re trying to say with your music.
What first got you into music?
Lampros: As far as I can remember, I enjoyed music very much. At high school I got in to metal, and since then music has been my life. Listening, playing and working in the music industry.
Vasilis: Sometime back in the 80’s I saw on the TV someone playing drums and that got me immediately. After that I started hitting anything I could find that looked like a drum. Many years after I got my first drumkit and was just jamming whatever was coming from a local pirate radio. That led to my interest in how to record drums in order to hear how I was sounding. Then I took it more seriously and that’s how it involved. And I suggested to the guys that we should do all the recording by ourselves.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Lampros: I would love to work with Jake Superchi from Uada.
Vasilis: I’d love to collaborate with Nergal because he’s a great songwriter. He was here on the island last summer, but he always uploads about it on Instagram just a few moments before he leaves the place he is at. Mf J
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Lampros: I guess that for every metal band, it has to be Wacken open air.
Vasilis: I’d love to do TUSKA Festival in Helsinki.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Lampros: Support your local bands in any way you can.
Vasilis: Everything big started from the underground. Support the underground scene on your area and spread their music.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Lampros: Ronnie James Dio
Vasilis: I’d love to hang out with Cozy Powel and have drum lessons with this beast!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Lampros: I enjoy the composing and the recording of new songs. I hate that, at least in our country, it is very difficult to be a musician and make a living from your own taste of music.
Vasilis: The feeling of creating is very powerful and keeps you going and doing what we do no matter what happens.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Lampros: I would change the industry.
Vasilis: I’d bring back the huge budgets the bands had back in the eighties and kill all the free downloading. (Me and Lars) 😀
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Lampros: Amon Amarth – “With Odin on our side”
Vasilis: Immortal – “At the Heart of Winter”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
Lampros: Despite not owning any, vinyls because you can appreciate the artwork and the quality is also much better.
Vasilis: I grew up with CDs so that’s my format of taste.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Lampros: For me it was our last show back in 2019, with Temperance and Hell’s Guardian. In a small club, full of people. All the bands were excellent, the vibe was great!
Vasilis: I played in front of 92000 people once in the Olympic Stadium in Athens with a marching band. That was fun.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Lampros: I am a carpenter, full time, and I love working with wood.
Vasilis: I’m working also as a musician during the summer season but also as a waiter for the living.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Lampros: Thats a tricky one, I guess it would be Ozzy, Nergal, Sakis Tolis, Marlyn Manson and Lena Scissorhands
Vasilis: Pete Sandoval, Derek Roddy, George Kollias, Dave Lombardo, and Mark Zonder to suck in their drumming mind!!!!!!
What’s next for the band?
We will promote our upcoming album “CONNIVE” as much as possible, and we will also work for our second album!
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Mind Erasure (@mind_erasure) •
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Lampros: Biscuit
Vasilis: Could be both \m/
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you very much for your support and we hope you will enjoy “Connive” once it’s out!
