EMQ’s With TASSI

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Chinese solo Metal project, Tassi. Huge thanks to main man, Dryad, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hey Hello, I’m Dryad. I’m the lead singer of Bliss Illusion. I’m glad to accept your interview! Tassi is the name of my solo band, which was founded in March 2020. I’m in charge of all the playing parts, hahaha!

How did you come up with your band name?

The name Tassi comes from the name of the protagonist in my novel (Dryad Tassi), which can also be understood as me in another time and space.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

I come from China (Beijing). I usually listen to very little Rock and Metal music from my country, so I can’t give you much information, but the overall music atmosphere here is still good.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

I recently released my third album at Timetombs records. Thank my agent and everyone who paid for this album. Then recently I was recording my fourth album.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Many people have influenced me, my wife and family, and the brothers of bliss illusion. I really appreciate it! And, of course, Sigur Rós and their lead singers Jónsi and Dante Alighieri.

What first got you into music?

I listened to music under the influence of my brother. At that time, I was only 4 years old (1992). We listened to a lot of Pop music and Rock music together. At that time, I didn’t know where he got a lot of pirated tapes. Hahaha! Later, I really fell in love with music when I was 15 years old. At that time, the way to listen to music was very convenient, so I naturally came into contact with many Rock bands and Metal bands. The first Black Metal band I heard was Summoning. At that time, I was shocked. At that time, they started my trip to Black Metal. I started playing guitar and writing songs when I was 17, and I also formed a band at that time. I have been a guitarist and lead singer in several previous bands, including the early days of Bliss Illusion.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I want to work with Sigur Rós and Jónsi, hahaha. And gorgorgoroth, Bethlehem, lifelover, Satyricon, silver, nocturnal expression, cut of fire, envy, Alex Somers, radio head, young galaxy… Too many, ha ha!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Sorry, I really don’t know which one to choose, because I never pay attention to any music festivals. This problem can only be left to my agent, hahaha!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

A PS5! I was so happy that I went crazy! I especially like collecting game consoles. There are many game consoles in my family. Ha ha! I think a friend who can give a game console as a gift can become a friend for life. Then another music fan gave me a magic wand this year. He thought there should be a dragon in my live performance

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I hope your troubles and worries will come to naught.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Kurt Cobain and Dead and Jon Nodtveidt, although I respect their choice, I really don’t want people to commit suicide.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I like equality and freedom. I don’t like politics and conspiracy theory.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I hope the band can get along well with each other. People don’t live so complicated lives and respect each other’s works and art. Create your own works in a wise way and tolerate each other’s works.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Jónsi’s “GO” and last year’s album “Obsidian”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

They all have each other’s value and significance. I prefer physical collections, such as tapes and black glue.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Every performance of Bliss Illusion and I is very profound. It’s really hard to answer, hahaha! However, the Domestic Tippler Metal Music Festival is my favourite music festival! From the organizer to the host city (Hangzhou), I feel particularly great! They have held it three times in total, and we have cooperated twice, and we are very happy every time! They are really good!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

If I didn’t make music, I might be a Chinese teacher, because my mother is a Chinese teacher. She is great. If economic conditions permit, I may also go to a small temple as a volunteer ha ha!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Dante Alighieri, Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel Jos é de la Concordia Garc í a m á rquez, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and finally my great grandfather. My great grandfather is a very kind man. I haven’t seen him, but my grandfather told me a lot about him. He is very honest and great. He has helped many poor people.

What’s next for the band?

I’ve been busy recording my fourth album recently, and then there are some trivial things. Bliss Illusion is still busy rehearsing and performing, and there may be a new song to meet you in a while. In short, thank you very much for your support and love of every friend of ours.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Bandcamp and Youtube, I have my own instagram, search Dryad Tassi can pay attention to me.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I always thought it was a personal name.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you!

I’m glad to accept your interview. I hope you can be safe and healthy! thank you!
