7/10
Florida’s Deicide has been a formidable force in the Death Metal scene for years, so now Cherry Records have put together “Crucifixation” a collection of three albums from the bands Roadrunner years. Pushing an overtly satanic and anti- Christian message, Benton famously branded an upside-down crucifix into his forehead. After a notorious NME interview, the band were targeted by animal rights activists.
First up in this triple collection is the debut self-titled album “Deicide”. Tracks such as ‘Dead By Dawn’ and ‘Day Of Darkness’ still contain their raw brutality, as it’s been a while since I delved into the earlier material. To have the follow up and widely considered influential ‘Legion’ to follow that debut is in my opinion the only logical choice, as when you are re-introduced to “Repent To Die” and ‘In Hell I Burn’ it’s hard to argue with the praise that’s lauded on this 1992 release.
The final stage of “Crucifixation” is the hard-to-find demos collection ‘Amon: Feasting The Beast’ featuring tracks that made up the basis of the debut album. This newly packaged collection also contained linear notes from Dom Lawson as well as interviews with producer Scott Burns and A&R Legend Monte Conner.
Still brilliantly blasphemous .
