EMQ’s With R3VO

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with European Alternative Rock/ Progressive Metal band, R3VO. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Leo, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi everyone! My name is Leo and I am R3VO’s vocalist. We are based in Berlin, where the four of us live (Altair at the drums, Victor at the bass and Jan at the guitar) since 2018.

How did you come up with your band name?

Victor created the project and gave it the name ‘Revo’ which apparently doesn’t mean anything, it just sounded cool to him. This year we rebranded into ‘R3VO’ to add to the coolness factor.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

Victor and Altair are from France, I am Italian, and Jan was born in Dresden, Germany. The music scene in Berlin is extremely diverse and welcoming, in our experience. We started to make connections in the Rock and Metal scene only this year, given that COVID shut down the live scene for a while. We are having a blast.

What is your latest release?

Our latest release is the single ‘Artificial Pleasure’ and its music video. This is actually my favourite song out of all of our productions so far.

Who have been your greatest influences?

The boys will tell you Porcupine Tree, Karnivool, Opeth, and RATM. I personally learned how to sing and scream by trying to imitate Kurt Cobain’s vocals.

What first got you into music?

Personally music has been my loyal companion in the lonely and confusing times of my teenage years. At a certain point, I became interested in being a musician as well as a listener.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Given that we live in Germany I think that we all have a thing for Wacken.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Our friend and supporter Jules invited us to his jam space, Katarkombe, and when we got there we saw that he had painted a 3m by 4m graffiti of our band’s name on the jam wall. It looks amazing.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

We would thank them for making time in their busy lives to support us. That’s really special.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

A great moment is the performance, the interactions with the audience. Less enjoyable is the way back to our rehearsal space at 3 am with all that gear.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Putting aside all of the positive aspects of being a musician and playing in a band, I gotta say that doing all of this, at least at our stage in our music career, is pretty expensive. I would change that.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

My favourite album is “Science Fiction” by Brand New.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I would say Privat Club Berlin with Royalist and Anima Above. We came back on the same day from a show in Troisdorf and I was running on 2 hours of sleep. For some reason I had major fun during that show.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I would probably be working in a record label as assistant A&R. If someone was to hire me as such.

What’s next for the band?

On 19.10.22 our single “Fireflies” and its music video was released. The single is a Prog Rock snowflake with a surprise outro. The music video has a sci-fi vibe and some crazy dance moves. On 16.11.22 our debut EP “Fireflies” (Prog Rock/Metal) will be released and we are stoked about it.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct

name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a

Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I feel like using Google to answer this question would be cheating, so I will say ‘Bun’(?).

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you guys for the questions. R3VO wishes you a beautiful day!
