EMQ’s With HOSTIA
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Czech/ Polish Death Metal/ Gridcore band, Hostia. Huge thanks to Guitarist, St. Anacletus, and Vocalist, St. Sixtus, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
St.Anacletus: Hostia. Godless Groovy Grind. Formed in 2017. 3 albums and EP till now. Enough talking – go listen!
How did you come up with your band name?
St.Sixtus: We come from a country where the catholic church is deeply rooted. They act like the Mafia, they are untouchable and above the law. In short: we are not fans of this institution and the blasphemous name is our obvious manifesto. You can believe it or not but with the current government and church power, we can have legal problems with this name.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
St.Anacletus: Czech republic and Poland. There are so many great metal bands here that I would count them till tomorrow.
What is your latest release?
St.Anacletus: Two new releases this year – EP “Resurrected Meat” and full album “Nailed”. Both available under Deformeathing Prod on vinyl, CDs and all digital you may want!
Who have been your greatest influences?
St.Sixtus: As a frontman I admire Mike Patton, Glen Danzig, Chris Barnes, Freddy Mercury and Dave Gahan.
What first got you into music?
St.Sixtus: It was Queen and then King Diamond which I am a die-hard fan to this day.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
St.Anacletus: David Vincent.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
St.Anacletus: Wherever they are people wanting to hear Hostia!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
St.Sixtus: Maybe not so much the weirdest as nice and surprising. I got a toy model of the Batmobile. It’s no secret that I’m a nerd.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
St.Anacletus: Don’t let others throw their ideas on you, even us!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
St.Sixtus: Freddie Mercury.
St.Anacletus: John Paul II so we can put him in prison for all his crimes!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
St.Sixtus: I love feedback on new material and playing it live. I hate travelling to play a gig (laugh).
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
St.Anacletus: “It’s for me and you, not the fucking industry”!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
St.Sixtus: There’s too much great music to answer that question. I just can’t.
St.Anacletus: Same here!
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
St.Sixtus: I listen to digital on a daily basis, but if I want to celebrate music then I listen to the vinyl records I collect. I don’t collect or buy CDs at all.
St.Anacletus: I use digitals, cause it’s easy especially while driving or travelling, but I definitely prefer physical albums – like all but I guess CDs the most. But I have a lot of vinyl and cassettes as well.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
St.Sixtus: All gigs where people react to our music and go crazy are the best concerts.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
St.Sixtus: I don’t consider myself a musician, shouting is my hobby. I work as a graphic designer on a daily basis and I can’t do anything else 🙂
St.Anacletus: Actually probably I would do what I do as we all not play for living (laugh)!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
St.Anacletus: The band and the driver – who else?
What’s next for the band?
St.Anacletus: Hopefully more shows to promote the “Nails” album!

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
St.Sixtus: No idea but muffins sound the tastiest.
St.Anacletus: Muffin or Tea Cake!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
St.Sixtus: Just accept Hostia to your hearts and we will buttfuck your souls.
