EMQ’s With Die Ego

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with London, Uk- based Metal band, Die Ego. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Diego, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I am Diego, guitarist in the band. DIE EGO was formed in 2015. We started writing songs and developing the band’s personality little by little. 7 years later we are still here and in our best moment.

How did you come up with your band name?

Is a wordplay with my name Diego. DIE EGO means the death of the ego.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I was born in Buenos Aires – Argentina. I grew up listening loads of local bands as well as international ones. I remember going to gigs and be amazed by the crowds, so passionate, signing all the words, and mosh pits were insane. That will be always a part of me. I am not sure how is the scene there right now in terms of bands, but in London where I have been living for the last 13 years, there’re plenty of underground bands who are doing a great work, also people are eager to go to gigs and discover new bands which is good, especially after Covid.

What is your latest release?

We released our debut album “CULTO” in 2020 with 4 videos supporting the release. You can watch them all on our YouTube Channel.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Bands like Black Sabbath, Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer had a strong influence in my musical journey. When it comes to guitarists I would say Dimebag Darrel, Ritchie Blackmore, Tony Iommi, Jerry Cantrell, just to mention a few, I have a long list.

What first got you into music?

As a musician, the idea of getting together with some people to create something, whatever it is, just make noise. It’s a weird experience.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I will stick to Gabe and Edo.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Bloodstock Festival, is the biggest one in the UK for Metal and it would be an achievement for us.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

A box of wasabi Kit Kats from Japan. Super tasty and you don’t get them around here, yum!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Open the pit mother f*@kers!!!! Ha ha! I guess thanks for listening to what we have to say.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Jim Morrison.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

What I enjoy the most is playing live and writing music. What I hate is… being a musician, ha ha!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

The people who run it.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Pantera – Vulgar Display Of Power.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl, Cassettes and CD’s, music is awesome in all formats. Never downloads, unless is from an official site where you get a good quality download and bands gets paid for it.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

With DIE Ego, not sure about the biggest but one that meant a lot for me was the album release show in November 2021. First gig after Covid, new line up, album release, loads of things and emotions happening in one night, it was great.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Enjoying life ha ha (joke). I don’t really know.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Can I have it with my cat instead?

What’s next for the band?

We have our second album coming out this year, date hasn’t been announced yet, but we will do it shortly. We will be touring around the UK in February and October supporting the new material and hopefully we can tour Europe for the first time too, we are working on it!

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I think it is a bun.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you for having me!
