EMQ’s With The Human Race is Filth
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with USA Doom/ Sludge/ Crust Metal band, THRIF (The Human Race Is Filth). Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Paul, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Paul -Guitar Dude. And yea the band started back in 2017 just for fun in our spare time from our other band/bands we play in and it pretty much took over as the full time deal over the years.
How did you come up with your band name?
We wrote a list of ideas behind the band and what message we wanted to spread and it all ended up that we “Humans” are what ruin everything so we came up with “The Human Race Is Filth”.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
USA we directly based in PA / The Mid-Atlantic Region / East Coast. And yea pretty full scene, I mean there are bands all around us that are awesome in just about every Genre you could think of! And lots of places for bands to play so it’s a nice scene / area!
What is your latest release?
“Cognitive Dissonance” is the name of it and we consider it an album, as it has 9 tracks at about 25 minutes, but some people are calling it an EP lol. But it’s a collection of material we wrote for an album at the end of the day!
Who have been your greatest influences?
Musically it’s a huge list depending on what band member your talking to lol. Basically we are influenced by Crust/Punk- Grindcore/ Death Metal / Black metal and whatever else is extreme genre wise lol
What first got you into music?
Tough one, again depending on who you ask in band what the answer may be lol. I got into music because my Dad was big into music, he listened to 70’s Rock mostly and that was my pathway!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Wow huge list there for sure. I got to say though for me it’d have to be a legend like Tony Iommi!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Another tough one! There are so many great festivals nowadays and new ones popping up all the time that seem great! It really depends who the headliner is lol
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Received a lot of weird stuff for sure. But I’d say the one that got me weirded out was the time I got some photos from a female that she smeared in her blood, and wrote stuff on paper with her own blood! I was trippin.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Wow, you all don’t have better taste? LOL, nah just thanks we appreciate everyone that supports our ventures!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Wow, tough, tough, tough! I’m intrigued by the early Rock stars. I’d love to spend a weekend with Jimi Hendrix, so I’ll go with him!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
A. Enjoy writing the most, it’s an outlet! Really really enjoy writing! And I hate all the money funnelled into a band that you never get back lol The big people in music rape all our wallets and make money off bands on our level while we don’t lol!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The marketplace! It’s terrible. Bands are successful mostly off popularity or trends set by some AR director with a label with money or notoriety, there are some really talented bands out there that don’t succeed and get overlooked. It’s a shame!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Infernal Majesty “None Shall Defy”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
I like them all, but I live in a world where Downloads rule supreme, mostly based on availability and ease of playing. Really prefer cassettes and CDs and still buy them, but I have to be in a committed mood to get them out for a while and I always worry something is going to happen to them lol
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
There have been many over there years, some terrible some great but hard to pinpoint one! I will say I enjoyed playing in Montreal, Canada the most. The people up there are awesome!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I work in Transportation industry to pay for my musician life lol
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
2 of my Kids, my parents, and Ozzy lol
What’s next for the band?
Just playing shows, writing music for the next opportunity to release something either on our own or with some support, we’ll see but more music out this year for sure!
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Our website www.Thrif.us or www.THEHUMANRACEISFILTH.COM
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Pork Pie is what I was thinking lol. But prob tea cake ???? Print the answer for us!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you and everyone who takes time to spread the word, listen to the music and just keeping the scene rolling with life! Not just for us but every musician out there, we all need you!
