EMQ’s With Call The Fraud

EMQ’s With Call The Fraud

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Swedish Modern Metal band, Call The Fraud. Huge thanks to Vocalist, Roger Jansson, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Roger Jansson, vocalist of the band Call the Fraud. I was a part of a band called Claypit, and Patrik joined for a period. Our ways crossed there, and he mailed me 4 songs and wondered if I could help him out with the vocals. As Claypit fell into resting mode, we decided to go for it, and do something together. Now we are like brothers, except we never fight!

How did you come up with your band name?

I used to play some Texas Hold’em with friends, having some beers, not serious playing… Two of them were Brothers and we called them The Fraud Brothers, since they were bluffing most of the time! It paid off demanding a call for their hand…

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re from Sweden, from a small town called Sala.

What is your latest release?

Our latest is the single ‘Insanity or?’, but we released our second album about 5 weeks ago.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Ronnie James Dio, there’s a unique expression in his voice.

What first got you into music?

Way back some friends of mine had a band called Hawk, and all summer period they rehearsed in the local cinema. My dream at that time was to do the vocals in that band. Some years later it came true. We are still friends but that band is retired.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

It would be cool doing something with Raised Fist! I love their energy, go check them out!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Well, Sweden Rock is the greatest venue in Sweden, so that’s my choice!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

That gift is yet to come… Haha!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I’d say all metalheads are one big family! In all the years I have not seen one fight at a concert, because everyone is there for the music! That’s passion!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

James Brown!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

It’s constructive working on a song, you get to define the content of it, so you can take out all your anger, fears, love and hate when you’re making music, and nobody tells you to shut up! I hate when I’m stuck in my writing. You can’t force it, you just give it more time.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

These big digital services are both heaven and hell. It’s the big ones that get the bucks. However you can get your music out worldwide, without a record label, and that’s amazing!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Cannibal – “Bury Tomorrow”!

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?

Vinyl.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

A local music festival, quite big for me!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Football coach, haha!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

John Cleese, Jim Carrey, Houdini, James Brown, and of course Patrik Svedlund would all be invited. What a party!

What’s next for the band?

We are recording at the moment, so we are already working on a third album. I’d say it will be a lot heavier!

#Call the Fraud!

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I’m not sure, but I’d say bun.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Turn the volume up, and enjoy your daily metal portion!
