Iconic groove metal leaders DevilDriver once again purge some personal demons with latest release “Dealing With Demons Vol.II”.

Album opener ‘I Have No Pity’ indicates a more ferocious approach than its predecessor, alongside the breakneck ‘Mantra’ which is laden with occult lyrics.

For me, the album seems to lose some of its momentum on ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’. I was hoping that ‘Summoning’ would rescue it – alas, it did not – but then the album’s lead single and the very reason I was initially excited about this release fires through and, my word, ‘Through The Depths” is just as phenomenal as it was the first time I heard it.

The album then moves into an evolutionary sound. If ‘Bloodbath’ is an indication of that direction then I am all for it! This is then followed by ‘It’s A Hard Truth’ which continues in the same vein.

Concluding with the duo of ‘If Blood Is Life’ and most recent single ‘This Relationship, Broken’, these songs provide the blood-soaked cherry on top of the cake that just unfortunately didn’t quite digest fully for me.
