EMQs with Livin’ Evil

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with French Heavy Metal band, Livin’ Evil. Huge thanks to their Bass Player, Jérôme Viel, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Jérôme VIEL, bass player and producer in LIVIN’ EVIL, French heavy metal band. The band was born in 1992, the creation of two brothers, Eric and Patrick Pairon. I joined the band in 1996, after the two demos of the band. The band split up in 1998 after several gigs when Antony, the drummer left the band for professional reasons, no drummer at this time could replace him unfortunately.

How did you come up with your band name?

The band name given by the Pairon brothers illustrate the evil which live inside everybody and sounds good for a metal band.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

The band is still from Maine et Loire, in the west of France but become also Italian and Greek with two new members! The local scene is like everywhere on earth! A huge choice of qualitative bands, maybe too much I think!

What is your latest release?

The lastest release is a full length album called “Prayers and Torments”, out in March 2023.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Iron Maiden without contest and you can hear that by listening to the album!

What first got you into music?

By listening to a lot of bands. When I was 15, I decided to join a band and learn an instrument.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

We collaborate with great musicians with guest solos inside the album, but to collaborate with some new ones in the next album such as Kai Hansen for example or Jeff Waters would be perfect!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I would like to play in Hellfest, because it’s very near from our location and one of the most famous. 70.000 tons of Metal would be fun also!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Even though we are not so famous at this time, the lovely messages from some fans are already a wonderful reward!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay safe and stay metal.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Chuck Schuldiner, we miss him a lot on the metal scene.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The pleasure of playing live is the thing I most enjoy, but nothing I hate, it’s only pleasure!

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Storm of the Light’s Bane” by Dissection.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl of course, and our last album will be out in July in 2LP gatefold!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

In January 2007, with my band TRYSKHELL, at LA LOCO, PARIS.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Steve Harris, David Gilmour, Joe Satriani, Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy.

What’s next for the band?

We will start to compose for the next album this summer with J.A. so a lot of work awaits us.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
