EMQ’s With Callous Hands

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Metal band, Callous Hands. Huge thanks to them for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Our name is Callous Hands, we are a 5-piece metal band from Birmingham consisting of vocals, x2 guitars, bass and drums. Eddy met Jim at school and Kieran through a mutual friend at college. But it was some years later that Callous Hands would be formed, finding Honcho and Adam through online advertising. We’ve been playing live since 2019, but we started to put the pieces together a couple of years before that.

How did you come up with your band name?

The band name comes from the fact that at least 2 of the founding members work hands on jobs, but we also love the double meaning to the name as well, it’s pretty metal so it works and we stuck with it.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from England, West Midlands, Birmingham. The scene around our area is creating some great sounding bands and it’s great to be a part of it.

What is your latest release?

“Trapped in Animated Flesh” is our second EP that will be released 07/07/2023. With the second single of the EP (Inc Video) The Great Unknown releasing on 22/06/2023.

Who has been your greatest influences?

Lamb of god, Malevolence, Gojira, Meshuggah, Pantera.

What first got you into music?

What first got us into Metal music was when we were at school as teenagers. Our friends were listening to bands like Machine Head, Children of Bodom, Lamb of God, Trivium and all that sort of Metal so that’s what we gravitated towards when we started playing.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

As a band we’d love to collaborate with Will Putney. He’s produced so many great bands.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

We’d love to play somewhere like Wacken or Hellfest, that would be a real bucket list moment.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Probably be a pint of Worthington’s Cream Flow!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Keep supporting the scene and upcoming bands.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Got to be Dimebag Darrell.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

We enjoy playing to a live audience, jamming and writing. I think we don’t particularly hate an aspect but the worst part of it is the amount of money it costs to be in a band and all it includes.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Lamb of God – “Ashes of the Wake”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

We all loved CD’s as this is what we grew up with, but no doubt downloading is more convenient.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Bloodstock Festival New Blood Stage.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Our day jobs.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Stephen Fry, Ranulph Fiennes, Joey Diaz, Danny DeVito and Kernel Sanders for the chicken supply.

What’s next for the band?

Gigging and demoing for an album.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We are on Facebook and Instagram!

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

Cob.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Any show of support is appreciated.
