EMQ’s With A Divinis

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs, this time with USA Technical/ Blackened Death Metal band A Divinis. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Casey Childers, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Casey Childers I play guitar. This history of the band is that we started in early 2022. I started the band when my main band The Kennedy Veil band went on hiatus. I wanted to challenge myself and start a new project. The first formation of the idea started with our bass player Ryan. I sent some riffs to our drummer Nathan (Arkaik, singularity) and asked former Kennedy Veil vocalist Taylor to do vocals.

How did you come up with your band name?

A Divinis came from me reading latin words. I felt the meaning would suit my ideas of the project. Which means “forbids the exercise of every act of the power of orders which one obtained either by sacred orders or by privilege”.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

From the United States and the city I’m from is Sacramento. Two members are from Sacramento and the other two Idaho and Texas. As far as the scene, the Sacramento scene I think is one of the best in the country. We have produced quite a few killer bands from our area in metal, Alterbeast, The Kennedy Veil, Flub, Katholik, Tyrannocannon, Solanum, etc… if I leave you out I’m sorry no offence.

What is your latest release?

Ov Odium

Who have been your greatest influences?

My favourite band of all time is Soundgarden. They are just them and no one sounds like them. As far as metal stuff I would say what most people say like Metallica and Pantera, but for our band it’s Dimmu Borgir and Behemoth and Dark Funeral etc…

What first got you into music?

I’m not 100% sure I just always love music. I was always attracted to it. My mom would sing in the car. I just loved music

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Ihsahn for sure. I think man is a legend and he has always had his own style and sound. Also James Hetfield but LOLthat’s just my hero

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken for sure I would love just to see it

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Never was given anything just had people that knew a lot about me and my family before and that was weird.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for liking the music and we look forward to bigger and better music in the future

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Chris Cornell

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I always enjoyed the live shows and touring. The idea that some riff you came up with in your room got you from your house to the country and other countries and that people connected with it. The things I hate are the passive aggressive people in the industry that won’t ever let you know they are fucking you.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would change merch cuts. Bands should have stopped this a long time ago

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Metallica – “..And Justice For All.”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl and because I think it makes you interact with the art. It’s more of a symbolic process, putting a vinyl on the record player. I think it connects you to the music.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I’m not sure off the top of my head LOL.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I would work as an NFL scout or something involved with football

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party.

Would have to ask if you mean famous or regular. My brother and my other brother Gabe Seeber, my best friend Nick and my brother from Alterbeast Andrew. If not that then James Hetfield LOL.

What’s next for the band?

More singles and more music

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I had to look it up ha ha. I would say it looks like a cookie

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Nothing to add other than thank you for your time.
