8/10

Lurking in the shadows of the band’s most recent album, “Bathed In A Black Sun” sees the same bleakness from Strigoi with an unfathomable amount of terror.

The EP is effectively made up of unreleased tracks from the Death Doom Stalwarts album “Viscera” but it in no way feels like an afterthought. Take for instance the title track ‘Bathed In A Black Sun’, which has an abundance of putridity with waves of hypnotic backing vocals.

Maniacal offering ‘The Grotesque’ is littered with thundering drum patters and slicing solos which, when linked up Mackintosh’s visceral vocal delivery, undeniably makes for the band’s heaviest track. Next up comes some fierce dominant basslines in the Napalm Death worthy 41 second ‘Beautiful Stigmata’.

The final duo of ‘A Spear Of Perfect Grief’ and ‘The Construct Of Misery’ easily make up my favourite section of the EP with their delectable and devastating deliveries especially the final track with its OSDM elements.

A cold and creepy companion.
