EMQ’s With FROGG
EMQ’s With FROGG
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with USA based Modern Experimental Technical Metal band, Frogg. Huge thanks to their Frontman, Sky Moon Clark, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Sure! My name is Sky Moon Clark. I’m the frontman of FROGG. I compose most of the music, play guitar and sing/scream.
How did you come up with your band name?
Our name comes from back when we were in high school. It’s a pretty funny story… I had convinced my sister to join a metal band and she was a very normal non-metal head human being. Her terms and conditions were pretty simple… we were either gonna be called Cheese with three Es or Frog with two Gs.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We’re from the New York metropolitan area. There’s a good metal scene in Brooklyn, NY. Lots of hole in the wall type venues that are super personal and in your face. Sometimes the audience is just a few feet from the band, and there isn’t even a stage. There’s also some venues throughout suburbia like The Webster in Hartford, CT.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We just released our first music video ‘Wake Up’. It’s one of three singles we’ll be releasing leading up to our first full length album. If you dig the proggy side of Tech Death, definitely give it a whirl!
Who have been your greatest influences?
For me personally, Alexi Laiho has been my single greatest influence. Not just musically but almost down to the personality and defining what it is to be a frontman.
What first got you into music?
When I was a kid I was big into gangster rap. Mostly mainstream stuff, nothing too dark. It gave me joy. Somewhere the lines blurred and gangster rap turned into Lamb of God and Children of Bodom.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Paul Wardingham, Stephen Tarranto or Per Nilsson, the metal guitar gods of today.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Wacken Open Air, so many iconic bands play there and it’s such a historic festival. It’s also supposedly very well organized.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
You know, back in high school we did get some panties thrown on stage. I think I did a sniff test afterwards… not sure what we were expecting. I was definitely a younger lad in 2010.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thanks for being weird and listening to our music!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Rhandy Rhoads.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love performing live, shredding guitar and screaming on a stage just always feels right. I hate the logistical side of everything, having to wear multiple hats comes with the gig.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Streaming platforms payouts need to scale better, and our slow government that still hasn’t figured out Napster needs to consist of younger individuals.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Hate Crew Deathroll” by Children of Bodom
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Depends on what the setting is! Downloads can rock if you’re downloading raw .wav masters or .flacs and listening with your headphones at home.
CDs are great for high fidelity audio in your car.
Vinyl is sick if you have a player and nice speakers.
Tidal’s high quality streaming is actually pretty decent. Their cost center for serverware per paying customer makes much more sense than most other streaming platforms.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Honestly, a friend’s wedding. I didn’t even play metal. I learned trombone over the course of a summer and played the march with my girlfriend and her father as a trombone trio. What a summer that was.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Who knows. Maybe esports would have been my true calling.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
All four members of the Red Hot Chilli peppers and the ghost of Leon Trotsky.
What’s next for the band?
We’re releasing another single this winter and a third in the spring. The third single is also gonna be accompanied by video. Lots of different variety between the three songs.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
froggband | Instagram, Facebook, TikTok | Linktree has all our socials!
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
What the f*ck is bread?
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Nope, thanks for reading! Ever Metal Rocks, Heavy metal for life. Keep it FROGGy out there folks.
