EMQ’s With Ghost Fan Club
EMQ’s With Ghost Fan Club
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs, this time with USA Alternative Indie/ Folk Rock artist, Ghost Fan Club. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hi hello, my band is called Ghost Fan Club! I’m pretty terrible with pinning down genres, I’d say I play some combination of Emo Slowcore, Bedroom Pop, and Indie Rock. GFC started in 2020, I had a band called Two Meters which became a metal project. I wanted to make stuff on the softer side as well, so GFC was born.
How did you come up with your band name?
I will give full credit to Dani, who created the label I released with knifepunch records. We were chatting about band name ideas and she came up with that and I loved it!
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
I’m from Florida in the United States! I think we have a really great Metal / Rock scene. My hometown is maybe 10 minutes away from where Death was founded, which is cool. I live in South Florida now which has a pretty thriving scene, Gouge Away being my favorite band from the area. Will also shout out my friends in GILT, another awesome Hardcore band. There used to be a few Metal bars that have since closed down, but people are still finding a way.
What is your latest release?
I have a new single! Called ‘Shoulders’, out now. With more coming soon.

Who have been your greatest influences?
My biggest influence has been and will likely always be Phil Elverum of The Microphones and Mount Eerie. His approach to songwriting, production, atmosphere, everything really. Also anything from the 2010’s bedroom pop scene has informed a lot of what I still like about music to this day.
What first got you into music?
My family. I know far too many 80’s songs because of sitting in the car with my mom. I first got into Emo and Metal because of my sister as well.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I’d love to sit in a room with Duster and just watch them record. I love analogue tape sounds, especially theirs. Just the opportunity to learn how they make it work would be incredible.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I have no desire to play live music in general BUT if I were to play a festival, I’d probably want to play Fest, which is a Punk / Emo / DIY rock festival in Northern Florida. I have a lot of friends who go / perform so it would be a lot of fun.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Well my parents gave me a bobblehead once, that was a little weird haha.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Hello friends, I hope you’re doing okay!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
I’d like to see what else Elliot Smith would have done. He still has such an influence, I’d be curious how much his sound would evolve with time.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy the writing and recording process. Getting into a groove and laying down a bunch of parts of a song in one sitting is very satisfying and fun. I hate actually releasing anything, haha. It’s struggle to not build up big expectations and it’s daunting in general to share things you’re proud of!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Oh gosh, so much haha. I think the easy answer here would be to make streaming fair for smaller artists.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
The Glow pt. 2 by The Microphones is my favorite album ever. I have the art tattooed on my arm; My first tattoo actually!
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I love Vinyl, I will not lie. My big goal as of now is to do well enough to justify having a pressing of my music. I do also collect Cassettes and probably think for the price, ease of production, and size those are actually the best for music collectors.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Never had a gig!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Well, I have a day job regardless haha. But if I had a dream non-music job, it would be owning an Aquarium store. I’m a big fish tank guy and being able to do that all day would be nice.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
The starting lineup of the Orlando Magic. If you follow me on Twitter you’ll know of my borderline bizarre love of the Magic.
What’s next for the band?
Once this current run of music is all released, I’ll be back and recording! I want a bit quicker of a turnaround this time. There was a 3 year gap between my last release and these.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
https://t.co/fNNv5J4ob9 that is my link tree!
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
I would call that a Roll!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks for having me! If you’re reading this – I hope you have a lovely rest of your day!
