I think it is their record company, I don’t know, who describe their debut album as “electrifying blend of energy, rocking riffs, catchy powerful vocal melodies, and contagious grooves. Influenced by Classic Rock and NWOBHM, this album is for fans of Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, and more.” which is a good description but the band, a classic four piece, from Phoenix, Arizona, USA; say to keep one foot on the Proto-Metal and the other on the NWOBHM and that is spot on, a better description if you ask me.
Are you ready for groovy drums, thick fuzzy guitars, powerful punchy bass and gritty vocals? Then keep going!
The debut album from Jupiter Cyclops called “Age of the UFOnaut” has eight tracks and kicks off straight away into groovy territory, powerful and straightforward as you should expect from a Hard Rock band.
The production of every track is very good, with a very vintage sounding mix but still clear and modern. Guitars sound huge as does the bass and the harmonization of the vocals are spot on giving a wider feeling to the whole mix.
It is not until the sixth track, ‘Chemical Voodoo’, that you will find a different sonority, more bluesy this time, more reminiscent of their Proto-Metal influences, some calm and while it is far from being psychedelic, it has some of the same vibe of those psychedelic moments from the early Zep or similar.
It is the last track, ‘Lumerian Nights’, my favorite of the record, with an interesting rhythm, syncopated, which makes you want to move the body like you were at Woodstock, you know what I mean, that kinda dancing!
There’s nothing special or refreshing about the record, it is well done, sounds good and works perfectly. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you write a song and Jupiter Cyclops haven’t done so but have done a nice record that works and that’s as good as it can be.
Well done guys! More to come I hope!
The good: Sounds good, everything is well done, production is spot on.
The bad: Nothing, there’s nothing bad to say about it. If you press play and find something bad let me know because I couldn’t find a single flaw.
The ugly: I was expecting something a bit refreshing maybe, which is not, but when there is good quality you enjoy it and shut the fuck up. Jupiter Cyclops delivered.
Hasta la vista, Ever-Metallers!
