It is not often that you listen to a self-produced EP where everything is so clear and so well packed as this one is. It’s so good that, if someone told me this was professionally produced in a big studio, I wouldn’t hesitate but let’s start from the beginning.

Still Echoes come from Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas, and even though this name is new some of you might have heard about Deaf Angel of She Kills Poetry, bands that have been crushing stages for almost twenty years and with all that experience, Scott van Slyke, Tina Grace and Jeremy Mewbourn have started this exciting new project.

Musically they are a Melodic Metal band with a bit of a Metalcore tint and some electronic elements. Tight, fast and aggressive guitar riffs, clean and saturated vocals full of melody and aggression, and a very well-packed and punchy rhythmic section. Yes, obviously you will enjoy a healthy dose of great breakdowns. Can it be any other way? I don’t think so.

First track, after the intro, is ‘Through the Fire’, which has all the fast and aggressive elements you expect from a band within this style to later be followed by ‘Darkened Skies’ which is a much calmer track but still full of aggressive vocals and crushing guitar riffs and a catchier chorus.

‘Falling Away’, the third track, is the most Metalcore-ish for me, with more airy and modern elements, a very catchy chorus, and a very aggressive verse.

The fourth track is ‘Pray for Rain’ and here the bass shines… So punchy and clear… you know that feeling when you are in the front row and the bass goes “booooooowwwwwwmmmm” and you feel it inside your body? Well, that’s it and feels SO good. The bassline is perfect for the song and the guitar riffs compliment the bassline instead of fighting to be in front of the mix. And then you have the best breakdown of the record.

Last track, ‘This Fire Burns (part 1)’ is as the name suggests: there will be more parts in upcoming releases that the band is planning throughout the year. This track is more an outro, very airy, more electronic. A beat, some sound effects creating a bit of a soundscape and the voice. Relaxing and beautiful, leaving you longing for more.

Apart from the very good production, especially considering it was self-produced, it is notable that even though you can hear some influences from this or that band, they don’t sound like this or that band. They have their own sound and bands that sound new and fresh are quite scarce nowadays.

Keep up the good work!!

Hasta la vista, Ever-Metallers!
