EMQ’s With Slowrepeat

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Israeli Doom/ Stoner Metal band, Slowrepeat. Huge thanks to their guitarist/ Vocalist, Ben Salomon, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hello, my name is Ben Salomon and I am the guitarist and vocalist for the band “Slowrepeat”. I started as a solo project somewhere in 2020, and after I released the debut EP, a bassist and drummer were added. Since then the project has become a kicking trio.

How did you come up with your band name?

The name Slowrepeat came when I started recording the first part of the EP and I called the first song “Slowrepeat” because it was slow and repetitive. In the track that came after it, I realized that Slowrepeat would be the name of the project, because the music is mostly like that – slow, heavy and repetitive.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I’m from Israel in the northern region. There are a number of leading genres here such as Groove metal and all its types. There’s also a cool and kicking Stoner scene with great bands like Stash, The Great Machine, Methuselian, Love your Witch, and more…..

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

The full album “Abra Cannabra”, which was released in January 2024.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Black Sabbath

What first got you into music?

It was Zakk Wylde. I saw him in one of Ozzy’s music videos on MTV when I was a kid, and I realized I wanted to be a guitarist.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Electric Wizard

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I would like to attend The Sick New World festival in Las Vegas this April! The line-up is just crazy, with bands like Acid Bath, Down, Queens of the Stone Age, and Meshugga, and I love them all.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Fortunately I haven’t received such a gift yet, haha!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Always be good to each other.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Jim Morrison

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I enjoy all the doing and creation, shows, meeting new audiences and bands. What do I hate? Carrying the amplifiers home after the shows of course!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Stop using TikTok.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

Although I sell records, I always prefer CDs. It’s the best format.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I think it was Stoner Fest III last year, there was an amazing atmosphere.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

A Painter

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Lori of Acid King, Zakk Wylde of course, Ehud Danan (Guitar Killer), Bobby of Pentagram and Ozzy.

What’s next for the band?

We are currently recording a new album, and in the coming months, we will release a single. We’re planning shows in the summer, too.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!

I don’t know a Jaffa cake, but I know the city of Jaff! But I love biscuit cakes so this is the winner for me haha!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

You are welcome!

Never stop Dreaming.
