EMQs With Face Yourself
EMQs with Face Yourself
11/04/2025
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQS interview, this time with Deathcore band Face Yourself. Huge thanks to their guitarist, Thomas Cardone, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
I’m Thomas Cardone. I play guitar in Face Yourself. The band started about two years ago and we’ve done a lot in a short time. We pumped out 3 EPs in our first year, did a full US tour as part of the Chaos and Carnage lineup in 2024 and have shot and filmed 10 plus music videos. Me and Eric, our drummer, were the first to sit down and start writing our original demos. We started the hunt for vocals and Eric came across Yasmin who had at the time won the total deathcore vocal contest. We sent her one of our demos and she blew us away.
How did you come up with your band name?
While experiencing a difficult point in his life, Our drummer Eric was revisiting the music that inspired him to begin playing music during the MySpace era. After a few days of listening to early Misery Signals the lyric “Coward, You can’t face yourself,” he knew it was game over.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
The band is a little scattered but we have members from across the US and France. New Jersey, New York, Colorado and France.
What is your latest release?
We dropped a video for our song ‘Predatory’ on March 12th which is on our new EP “Martyr” out now on Sumerian Records.
Who have been your greatest influences?
My own personal influence would have to be the band “The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza”. Josh Travis has been my favorite guitar player since I was in highschool.
What first got you into music?
I would have to say my friends back in highschool got me to pick up the guitar originally but as I started playing, my guitar teacher would host shows for his students and have everyone come up and play. That’s when I figured out that performing live was one of the best feelings out there.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
If I could collaborate with a band right now I would probably want to work with Shadow Of Intent. Chris Wiseman is an amazing guitar player and I love his work in both Shadow of Intent and Currents.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Since I was a kid I would watch videos of Slipknot headlining Download Fest and it made me always have the goal of playing on one of those stages.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Okay this is a weird one, but a fan gave me a gift bag that had a vial of their blood in it. I don’t know what that was all about but I’m probably cursed now….
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
I would say that no matter what just keep going to shows. There is always something going on that stops people from going and you should never miss out on seeing your favorite bands or a band you’ve never seen before that you might become a mega fan of.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
It would definitely have to be Freddy Mercury. Mans had the best singing voice in rock and roll.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
My favorite part about being a musician is the high I get from just being on stage. It’s the best feeling I’ve ever experienced.
My least favorite part of being a musician or maybe the hardest part is not falling into the same routine for writing. Trying to do something different while at the same time writing what you enjoy can be hard.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Fucking merch cuts on tour! I don’t know who’s bright idea it was to take a chunk of the band’s tee shirt sales but there is a special place in hell for whoever thought that up.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
One album that I’ve always been able to play front to back that never gets old is Whitechapel’s New Era of Corruption. Phil was a monster on that record and it has some of their best writing in my opinion.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
Vinyls hands down. People are making some really colorful or creative designs for vinyl and the vinyl culture is just interesting to me.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
I would have to say my best gig was Face Yourself’s first show. We booked it and wasn’t sure how it was going to go over but the fact that we can say we sold out our first show is such an achievement for us.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
For me if I had stayed in school I probably would have become a therapist. Helping people and listening to them has always been fulfilling for me.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Guy Fieri (he’s hosting the dinner party).
Ryan Reynolds (only if he dresses up as Deadpool).
That dude who saved his dog from a kangaroo on YouTube (I would love to hear that story in detail).
Eric Andre (he’s the wild card to throw some chaos into the night).
Judge Judy (because she would be mad the entire time and it would be hilarious).
I know that was a strange line up but more thought went into that than it should have.
What’s next for the band?
More music, more videos and more touring. It’s been almost a year since we played a show and we are itching to hit the stage with our full line-up.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!
As an American I would call that a cookie but I think that’s the UKs biscuit? I feel like a cake just has to be fluffier. I’ve also never had one so I could be wrong on its consistency.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
We have our new EP “Martyr” coming out April 18th check it out and preorder: https://sumerianrecords.com/collections/face-yourself
