EMQ’s With RECALL THE REMAINS

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Melodic Metalcore/ Deathcore band, Recall The Remains. Huge thanks to their drummer, Tony, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Tony and I play drums. Recall The Remains—a five-piece Metalcore/Deathcore band from Telford, Shropshire. Formed in 2017, we spent our early years honing our sound and playing local shows.  In 2021, we released our debut EP, “Dead Dreams”, a collection of tracks that delved into themes of loss, mental health, and personal struggle.  The EP was well-received and helped us establish a foothold in the UK metal scene. Recently we just released our long awaited debut album “REVENANT”.

How did you come up with your band name?

Our story began back in school when our bassist Jordan and guitarist Elliot, during a lesson, started brainstorming band names. They wanted something that encapsulated the idea of remembering who you are after facing hardship.  That’s how the name “Recall The Remains” was born—a metaphor for resilience and identity.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re based in Shropshire, and the Metal scene is alive and well in Shrewsbury thanks to great promoters like Born to lose, bringing heavy music to the people of Shropshire. Unfortunately, venues for the alternative scene are a little scarce in our hometown of Telford ever since the closing of the iconic Haygate. Luckily, we’ve found new homes across the UK, predominantly in Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Manchester.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is our debut album “REVENANT”, which was released on the 1st May. It was accompanied by our latest single “CERBERUS”.

Who has been your greatest influences?

My own personal influences for drums are Joey Jordison, Chris Adler, The Rev, Patrick Galante and Moose formerly of BMFV, now killing it in Kill the Lights.

The band’s influences are a much bigger list, with there being 5 of us, we all have very different tastes in music. The main ones are While She Sleeps, Killswitch Engage, Whitechapel, Lamb of God, Ghost, Rammstein and Nightwish.

What first got you into music?

I was first introduced to heavy music by my sister and her friends. We used to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 and listen to CDs. Bands such as Rammstein, System of a Down, Slipknot, Korn. I remember hearing the drums on the intro on ‘People = Shit’ and instantly fell in love with drums.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I’ll say this one for our vocalist Jacob. Phil Bozeman from Whitechapel

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Download for sure. A few of us have been long-standing attendees of Download, and it’s always been a dream to one day step on that stage.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Not weird in the slightest, but a wonderful fan gave us a necklace that they hand-made and it was our band name, but designed to look like ancient runes. It was very cool.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Our journey has been marked by growth, challenges, and an unwavering passion for music.  We’re grateful for the support of our fans and the opportunities we’ve had to share our music with wider audiences.  As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue creating, performing, and connecting with listeners around the world.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Joey Jordison. One of the greatest drummers taken too soon

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

That’s a tough one because I genuinely love most things about being a musician, but if I had to narrow it down, I’d say performing and having the best time with my friends each night we perform.

There are negatives to being a musician, but nothing I’d say that I flat-out hate. If anything, it’s the travel. Especially if it’s over 4 hours.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

That streaming services pay artists fairly.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Gunship – “Dark all day”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

CDs

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Bloodstock, the whole day was just incredible.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I would probably still be a chef.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Chris Adler, Matt Halpern, Tobias Forge, Rick Rubin, Patrick Galante

What’s next for the band?

We’ve got a bunch of live shows lined up to promote our album “REVENANT”. We’ve already started writing album number 2. It is in very early development, but we hope to head to the studio early 2026.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?

I know it as a bun.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you everyone for taking the time to read this. You can catch us at a show very soon. We hope to see you there.
