EMQs With Vyr Muk

EMQs With Vyr Muk
21/07/25

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Ukrainian one-man Black Metal project Vyr Muk. Huge thanks to Vlad for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Vlad Blizniuk and I have black/death metal project that is called Vyr Muk. The project was created at the end of 2023 and I am the only participant at this moment.

How did you come up with your band name?

The name of the project is actually two Ukrainian words вир and мук, which can be translated as “whirlpool of torment”. I think this name has a nice description of what my music tells about to the listeners.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I am from Kharkiv, Ukraine and this city is very famous for lots of great bands and projects that play black metal, for example Drudkh, svrm, Burshtyn, Khors and many others. There are lots of new bands and projects from Kharkiv city and not very well known, for example Sarnath Eternal, 1310M (Kharkiv region) and many others from other cities.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

My latest release is a split EP release with project 1310M, it is called «Холодне Мовчання Зірок» or “Called Silence of the Stars”. This release is dedicated to dark historical parts of the history of Ukraine, such as: holodomor, Chornobyl catastrophe and repressions that people suffered under the totalitarian soviet regime.

Who have been your greatest influences?

I would say these are: Black Sabbath, Pantera, Dimmu Borgir, Septic Flesh and Behemoth.

What first got you into music?

When I was a teenager and first listened to Black Sabbath – Black Sabbath I decided that I want to play guitar, that was a great influence for me, I enjoyed every note I heard and that’s how my music path started.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I do collaborations already, I plan to issue an album where every song will be a collaboration with a different Ukrainian artist. I hope this will become real in autumn. Also it will be a pleasure to collaborate with bands/projects whom I enjoy listening to, but the list will be too long to write.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I would choose Waken and Hellfest, for me these are one of the biggest and very well known metal festivals with great line ups. This would be a pleasure and honour to perform there.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Haven’t received any gifts at this moment.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Just want to say thank you, I have a very small but loyal fan base, I am very thankful for their support, it motivates me to make new music and grow as an artist.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Hard question for me, I cant choose one, I would say Ronnie James Dio and Darrell Dimebag.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

From the positive point, music is a great way to express your thoughts and emotions and deliver messages to the listeners, it also works as a therapy for me. What I hate is that the music industry is unfair, lots of cringe things become popular nowadays when lots of great artists are unnoticed. The music industry is very unfair, as the whole world is.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I wish people paid attention to the talent of the artist and not hype and cringe. I think this would change the music industry in a better way.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Pantera – Vulgar Display of Power

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

Vinyl.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Since Vyr Muk is a one man band I haven’t played any gigs yet, maybe one day this will change.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Actually I am a lawyer, so I already do something else)

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Ozzy Osbourne, Shagrath, Nergal, Rob Halford, Dmytro Kumar.

What’s next for the band?

I’m in the process of writing material for the new release, this will be an LP with 8 songs and lots of collaborations with great artists. Hope everything will be done in autumn.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Streaming platforms, bandcamp, instagram: https://hyperfollow.com/VyrMuk1310M

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!

Very unexpected question, I would say it looks more like a biscuit.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Nothing to add, thank you for the questions!
