Eyup everyone, Gaz Bates here, it’s certainly been a hot minute since I did one of these, but I am back and this time I am here to tell you about the new 6 track EP from Austrian Rockers WitchRider.
METAMORPH is due to be released on the 15th of August through Fuzzorama Records and it is a solid EP, bringing lots of vocal hooks, fuzzed out riffs and melody, the opening track ‘Used To Be A King’ gives your ears a Queens Of The Stone Age style lead line, in fact, the QOTSA influence is undeniable throughout METAMORPH, but hey, if you’re going to be influenced by anyone, why not let it be Homme and crew..
Tracks like ‘Sound Of A President’ and ‘Hold My Mind’ really showcase frontman Dan’s talent for forming a catchy vocal melody. Lyrics like “I’ve Grown Tired Of Living In My Skin” are delivered with a brooding passion, and so is every lyric on this EP to be fair, and it does make me want to see them live. As much as I like these 6 songs, I think they are probably a band that I will appreciate more at a show.
Overall, this EP is solid, as I said at the beginning, but I think the biggest takeaway from it is just how accessible it is. If you are looking for something heavier and more visceral than bands like Foo Fighters and Royal Blood then this EP and the rest of the bands back catalogue is a good starting place. If you are new to Stoner, Doom and even Psych, I could say with confidence that this will help you on your journey of Fuzz and Riffs.
